I was just thinking about this.We all know people react to movies and shit differently, but does how a person react to disturbing stuff reflect a little bit about that person.Take for example the hills have eyes remake. Now don't get me wrong,a movie like that is nothing new or surprising to horror movie fans like ourselves, but i know a lot of people found that movie hard to watch and very shocking.I for one enjoy movies that shock and disturb. Those are the movies that are remembered.Just because a movie is disturbing/shocking doesn't mean it can't be a very good, intelligent film.My question really is what is it about us that is so different from the mainstream that allows us to be so unaffected by fucked up shit?Is it because we've seen so many horror movies we've become desensitized to shit that would shock/disturb the everyday person?

I feel I have been as well. Some violent stuff in real life doesn't affect me as it should. Although subject matter such as child/animal abuse does touch a nerve. When I see someone murdered on the news etc., I usually just go "oh well"

Better them then me right?
On Cops episodes they are showing dead bodies more and my girlfriend always has to close her eyes. So any death on TV to me is just normality.

I desensitized as well. Theres times where I say what the fuck just happened here but yah I dont close my eyes anymore. :D

I know most of us don't,that's what i was saying. To the mainstream though there is a lot to be shocked by in that movie.A mother getting executed at point blank range as the blood paints her babies mobile, the parents of three getting brutally murdered and the mother having her heart eaten, even the pointing of the gun at the baby.

I am desensitized when it comes to movies, most of the time.
I think that last thing that disturbed me in a movie was when I found out why Buddy was so freaked out about the blue diamond,in The Gift, but then I just rewound it to Katie Holmes's Tit flashing scene and the world was right once again.

There have been real life situations that have really disturbed me to the point where I still think about them from time to time.

After years of watching horror movies, nothing seems too shocking or disturbing to me anymore. That's not, to say the least, that my eyes don't pop out of my skull due to some unexpected movie surprises. Apocalyptic movies, still strike a nerve with me, but only a few. The least they do is make me feel a little uneasy. At times, you think to yourself that this shit could possibly happen (massive death due to a virus, meteorites hitting Earth, worldwide anarchy and massive chaos, etc.) that you can't help but feel uneasy or disturbed.

when I see torture, accidents or real deaths on film I don't get sick or disgusted I get disappointed with humanity. Movies? I can see anything it wont phase me because I know its fake and made for entertainment

I've never been grossed out by anything gore/death related. I've been shocked to some point but never turned away or felt quesy. The only thing in films that really get me are drama/crime films that deal with spousal or child abuse or senseless murder. (Boys Don't Cry, The Girl Next Door, ect). Like Driden said, those just make me disgusted at humanity.

Nothing really disturbs me in movies anymore. If anything, it amuses me and sometimes gives me a laugh. There are movies that will every so often shock and disturb me, but that's rare. However, in real life, it is saddening when people die to me, especially if it was a child, but sometimes, it doesn't really phase me.

I jut watched Cat in the Brain last night...and the opening scene with the cats clawing at the brain grossed me out....although I was eating dinner at the time - so that had some part in it.

Nothing really bothers me, I might jump at a scene in a particular movie if I'm at the theater, but thats only because of the music blaring out of nowhere.

An example of where I jumped was in 1408 when that killer person tried to hit John Cusak (sp?) when he was standing by the window.
