What's the 1st thing you would do with $1000? (if someone handed it to you)
I would pay off my next 3 car payments in advance.

The reason for this thread: this question came up in a marketing meeting today...like it does every Jan. 3-5th.

I see. I'm pretty sure on average most americans will spend it or pay a creditcard bill. seeing how I believe last I heard 60% of people are in debt, debt = no sense. they probably wouldn't pay a bill

Credit card debt is out of control.

Free thousands bucks? Probably just blow it.
I stick to a rather strict budget so any extra money that comes my way usually gets thrown into the 'use it for whatever' category.

Blow it all on the stock market.
pay off some small bills and blow the rest on dvd's
I'd pay off a balance I owe to my school.

well most Americans will blow all on random junk, whether its to make their appearance better or to make them feel more wealthy.
It would depend on the mood I would be in.
1) save it - CD/savings account
2) Spend $200 on DVDs, wants/$300 on needs/$500 savings
3) pay 4 car payments

Get that tattoo I've been wanting, buy my rats a bigger cage then blow the rest on other stuff I really dont need.
I try not to let myself get into debt for fear of having to move back in with my family. Thats why I refuse to ever get a credit card.

I'd buy dead breed a clue. Umm, Prob just put it in the bank, exciting isn't it?
Just spend it on things you NEED not WANT. Paying your car note for acouple of months is a smart way to stay ahead in life. I myself would be buying baby stuff for the kid "on the way".

On the way eh, congrats man. I hope he/she's into horror movies.

Congrats Zion.
On that note, yeah, I'm one of the people who would dump at least half toward the credit card bill. Had to replace my car and father a second child in the last year -- plus a few "can't you just charge its" from my wife. Starting 2008 in the red.

$25,000 and counting.
Far as a simple $1,000 goes without the above assets. Pay the cell and some of my car insurance. Almost done with the car and I've recieved discounts via the insurance from being a good citizen on the road with zero accidents.

It costs me about $45-50 a week for both jobs and a once-a-week grocery shopping trip.
Between this hypothetical $1000 and my next check from Job #1, I would be able to completely pay the credit card off. Then I'd run it back up driving to work. :D
