What are the movie ticket prices in your area?
I live in North Dakota, here we only have two movie theatres. One theatre (Carmike) has 8 screens, and the other (Grand) has 16 screens. Both theatres get different movies. In my opinion, Grand is the best. They have bigger theatres, stadium seating (better viewing), and cheaper movie prices. And it's more nice.
Carmike 8 is connected to a mall no one goes to, and it's seats are all in a straight row, so it's not so great. And the seats are uncomfortable after about an hour. Plus, they play a million commercials, AND trailers. So it takes about 30 minutes before the film starts. As for Grand, they only play trailers. So it's not that long of a wait.
The one thing I loved most about living here was the cheap movie ticket prices. But from the past two years, I've noticed the prices have grown dramatically.
The cheapest I remember the movie tickets here being were $7.50. Both of the theatres had that price in August 2006. I went to "Pulse" on it's first night showing, and "John Tucker Must Die" right before that. Two movies in one day = major love.
And then around January 2007, the prices changed. Both theatres had their movie tickets at $7.75.
In the fall of 2007, Carmike raised their prices to $8.00, as Grand stayed the same, a 25 cents cheaper.
And NOW, as of about a month ago, they changed their prices AGAIN. Carmike raised their prices to $8.50 (ridiculous!), and Grand raised theirs to $8.00.
So now, us North Dakotans have to pay $8 or $8.50 to see a movie. This sucks compared to $7.50 a year and a half ago.
If the theatres here keep raising their prices, I'll go insane. Because I'm a movie whore. And this isn't making me happy.
