I was wondering if anyone on this board could recommend any good foreign television/sitcom shows that I could rent. I really haven't been enamored by the current television line up, and usually just end up watching cartoons or documentary shows.

The only foreign shows I watch are South Korean romance/comedy/dramas :ahheh:

Are there any that you could recommend that I could get from Netflix?

I just started watching BLACK BOOKS (the BBC comedy). I'm having a blast with it and would recommend. It's Netflixable.

There's always BBC's RED DWARF (Scifi sitcom). Also Netflixable.

Another BBC sitcom I would recommend is COUPLING - sorta the british answer to FRIENDS, but much better (and about sex). It's on every night on BBC AMERICA, or it can bet netflixed.

If you can find SPACED, another BBC sitcom, DEFINITELY get it. Created, written by, and starring Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead). Great (!) show. Even has a zombie episode. Not netflixable, but torrentable.

On a non comedy (though it cracks me up a lot) tip, I just finished watching both series (seasons) of LIFE ON MARS (which is torrentable / or on BBC America). Solidly fun cop show with a scifi-ish twist.

G'luck with your quest... I feel your pain.

Own the series on Region 2 DVD. I do a series marathon at least once a year. Brilliant stuff.

If you like Black Books, try and check out Bill Baileys stand up gigs (he's the guy with the long hair but bald scalp ) his best is Part Troll, here's a link for it. Bill Bailey - Part Troll (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfh7tSYVQdU) he's fantastic.

Sweet! I'm brand new to it, having watched it for the first time last month, and am in that "where do I get this on DVD?!" mode. It's a bloody shame it's not on R1 or I'd have all my friends owning it.

Possibly my favorite sitcom.

Forgot another show worth a shot... HYPERDRIVE, starring Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead / Hot Fuzz / Spaced). It could be described as THE OFFICE in space. It's not superb, but it's worth checking. I enjoyed it.

Watched an episode on TV last night it just started up here, really good show though I do love Shameless more.

The Office - Ricky Gervais Stephen Merchant version. Greatest British show ever.

Extras - also played on HBO and readily available on DVD.

Spaced - Yep, can't find it in the US due to music licensing issues. Reruns air on BBC America from time to time, and there's also the internet.

Peepshow - I really like this one. I think Mitchell and Webb could be the next breakout comedy duo to come to America.

High Spirits with Shirley Ghostman - funny parody of John Edwards psychic types.

Ebosun! You Clever bastard I was gonna reccomend Black books! One of the funniest shows from the Uk I've ever seen. I really got a lot of respect for Dylan Moran after watching that series. The man is quite clever.

I couldnt stop laughing after he was drunk at an old friends house and complained to the guys stodgy wife about her buying a 'wicker toilet'. That still makes me smile to this day.

No doubt that's the case. I was very surprised when they opened one show with the theme from RESIDENT EVIL 2. Guess I'm gonna have to get the R2 discs.

So I hear. I have that coming after I return the BLACK BOOKS series.

I agree. That show is responsible for more "burst out laughing" moments than any show I can remember. And they all seem to take me by surprise, which is rare. I really dig it. A gem.

I purchased the 3 disc set on Ebay that has both series for around $30 + shipping. Not a bad deal at all.

I'm the other way round to be honest. Shameless is good, completely surreal and such, but Skins is awesome. It get's a bit silly towards the end episodes of the first series but it's compelling viewing. Series 2 starts next month, am proper psyched.

Oh, and everyone check out the cartoon Monkey Dust, I think it might play on BBC America, it's crazy shit. But hilarious.

I saw Spaced at a convention here and passed, I plan on picking up the r2 as well. One series that was here on Showtime was Meadowlands, it was called Cape Wrath or something in England. Anyway it was decent but ended abbruptly, but was odd.

Besides the various animes I watch, there are only two other shows that I know of that I watch:

Gaki no Tsukai- A really funny Japanese game show that always involves the same five guys. There are many different types of games they play. The most popular types of games are the "Batsu No Laughing games." In these, usually four of the guys (the one who isn't in wins a bet) are put in different situations, like going to Highschool or a police academy where they are not supposed to laugh at whatever the actors do to try to make them laugh. If they do, they'll be hit in the ass by a bamboo sword. Sometimes, they'll have darts shot at their ass. There are many others besides this, but that's the most popular type.

Hello Morning!- Haven't seen many episodes. It's a comedy/game show type of thing that stars the J-pop band Morning Musume. Like I said, I haven't seen much, but I've seen a few episodes of them trying to learn English, and I thought it was pretty funny.

I just started another brit comedy, GREEN WING, and after a couple eps I feel comfortable recommending it. It's a bizzare hospital comedy. Sorta like SCRUBS, but more racy, and certainly more zany.

I prefer Scrubs myself, but it's always fun to watch to surgeons play pat-a-cake over someone whilst mid surgery.

i saw a video on liveleak.com about a japanese game show where the contestants try to catch marshmellows in their mouths. the marshmellows are hanging from the ceiling on a string and the person catching it has to put this rubber band type of device on their face and pull themselves forward...you should see the faces these guys make its f*ckin hilarious!!!!!

I'm sure many will say otherwise but, if you can find seasons/movie[s] of The Trailer Park Boys on dvd, definitely worth checking out.

Also, if the CBC show 'Intelligence' is on DVD, or American television, I'd suggest that as well. Davinci's Inquest also gets the thumbs up.

:coolbeer: Anytime. His other gig Bewilderness (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DB_FlVg6I6k) is also very good especially his French Ambulance Siren (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRyvsRAo8T8). And there's another one called Cosmic Jam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w15j-9zkTP4) but it's good but not a patch on the other two, it's very early Bill Bailey and could be worth a look if you fancy it.

I grabbed BEWILDERNESS as well, just haven't watched it yet. =) I also grabbed a couple of Dylan Moran's standup - whom, just after watching Black Books, I thought would be the funnier performer or the duo. Personally, I found Bailey to be MUCH more enjoyable on stage. Who knew!

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

There's a turkish flick called 3 Dev Adam that features spider-man... as a rapist.
Turkish Rambo is pretty rad. Every time he fires his rocket launcher, you can see the wire pulling the shell, then cut to the same explosion over and over. Stallone wishes he were this awesome.
