My brother has AVG Free on his computer and it's currently out of date. When he tries to update it and this comes up:
An error occurred when trying to connect to the server. The server name cannot be converted to the IP address.
It wont let me update it for him, any suggestions guys on how I can help him? I even downloaded a new version of AVG Free and the problem still occurs. Thanks.

Sounds odd, never had that error before. I would have suggested trying to re-install, but you said you already tried, so if you haven't yet, you should check their their support area or forums if they have one.

I re-installed it again but it didn't work. So I just downloaded Avast for him. Thoughts on Avast? What's some good free anti virus protection you can dl?

I've used Avast for years and it's pretty solid. No complaints.

Free one is fine. The one you pay for offers features that I personally don't need, so I never bothered.

Why would you need to have two anti viruses? :ahheh:

It's good to have two, sometimes one finds something that the other might not. I have McAfee Security Center which I pay for, and I also have the free version of AVG. Believe it or not, one time AVG found a trojan that Security Center did not. I found that surprising especially considering how AVG is free and I pay for the McAfee product.

In the past, what Avast doesn't detect, my spyware will find and once it's found, Avast kicks in and gives me the option to delete it. You don't want to overload your computer with too much security, as sometimes they will conflict with each other and cause more more problems than not. Plus, it'll make your comp run slower if you have too much running at once.
AVG used to give me problems some years ago, I dont remember what though. I think it was something that was constantly running and interfering with the net or something like that. Might have to use it again, I use Spybot, Adaware and have windows one care
