Wasn't interested in this flick when it came out back in '98 since I was still in my teens and I tried to keep history lessons in the classroom. Now that I'm older I can appreciate films like these more and my interest was sparked when I noticed the trailer to the sequel, which came out somewhat recently, and actually looked like a good watch. I figured it wouldn't hurt to take a look at the first movie if I wanted to catch the sequel.

Excellent film. Great performances all around; especially love Geoffrey Rush's character and, of course, Cate Blanchett, who pulled off Elizabeth magnificently. I can see why it won an Oscar and was nominated in many other categories at the time. Looking forward to checking the sequel, although I hear it isn't as good.

8/10

I personally own the movie and I found it to be a great flick. If anyone cares about historical accuracy, this movie was not (but I liked the movie for what it was). If you want historical accuracy or love this flick, I would recommend picking up the Channel 4/HBO Films "Elizabeth I" that stared Hellen Mirren, Jeremy Irons, and Toby Jones (who you might remember from Infamous and most recently The Mist). Plus, even though they are brief, there are some nice gory torture and execution scenes. :D

Not sure if I'll bother with that film, since I was just looking for a good movie, not to actually learn anything :ahheh:

Elizabeth is a great movie. I've been meaning to check out the sequel. Geoffrey Rush is badass. Loved him in House on Haunted Hill, Shine, and Quills

Finished the sequel earlier. Good movie, but definitely not as good as the first. 7/10

this is one of my favorite all time movies. I just love her progression in it. She starts one place and completely 180's into this monarch. It's so beautifully shot also. Fantastic movie.
