To be honest I am not huge on effects. Just give me some nasty distortion, a good OD pedal and a little reverb/delay/chorus for most things and I'm good.
I use my GT-6 mainly for delay and chorus, otherwise, it collects dust.

I just have a handful of cheap amps. Love the Smokey Amp, but the line out sucks. Still fun to mic it sometimes. The others are cheap 15 watt Crate amps -- one with and one without reverb.
DOD Stereo Phaser
Danelectro (cheap) Metal distortion.
Danelectro (cheap) Reverb pedal
Danelectro Trip-L Wah
and a Danelectro Daddy-O Overdrive.
Hey -- that's my budget. :D
TASCAM 414 Mk II 4-track, hooked into my desktop's Line-In jack. Works as a mixer.
Fun trick! Guitar goes into phaser. Output 1 to metal distortion to cheap Crate amp #1 (for recording, line 1 turned hard left). Output 2 goes to Overdrive pedal to cheap Crate amp #2 (or when recording, line 2 turned hard right.)
The phaser itself is either turned off or on some very light setting. I get a pretty good crunch / wall of sound effect out of that.
I should really invest in a compression pedal -- and this is just my guitar equipment.

Right now just a little Peavy while I learn the bass. My dad has been playing guitar all his life and he mainly uses Fender and an old school Lab Series which is pretty awesome.
