I need your help here guys...

I recently got into a bit of a verbal war with someone over who the first rock/hard rock band was to use a symphony orchestra in their music.
Now, this guy reckons Guns n Roses was the very first and that all others have only since copied their so-called "pioneering" ways.

I told him he's full of shit, and gave him several examples, however I guess being a girl I'm not supposed to know my stuff and he won't believe me.

So here's your mission should you choose to accept it.

Who were some of the first bands of rock to use an orchestra in their music, what was the song, and the name of the album?
pre-Gunners remember!

"...Kamen also worked on the orchestral arrangements for Pink Floyd's 1979 album The Wall, and worked with the band on the albums The Final Cut and The Division Bell."

In addition to The Wall, Kamen is also credited (http://wc03.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&searchlink=MICHAEL|KAMEN&sql=11:wifyxqt5ldfe~T4) with conducting duties on Queensryche's Warning album, as well as works by David Gilmore, Roger Waters, the Eurythmics, and Queen.

Without getting into a debate over what would/wouldn't be rock, your buddy is, in fact, irredeemably full of shit on the basis of this one composer, alone...

Hmmmm,Just some guesses

I think Moody Blues used a symphony in some of their music.
Queen,Bohemian Rhapsody?
Styx,Mr. Roboto?
Aerosmith,Dream On?
Queensryche,Silent Lucidity-cant remember if this was before November Rain.
For some reason I thought Rush used a symphony in one of their songs as well.

No shit, and he's not my friend, it's my hubby's boss who seems to think that GnR and The Dankness er uhhh Darkness are the only two bands out there worth listening to.
I simply love having the opportunity to prove someone wrong, especially with so many brilliant examples.

Thanks guys, you're the best!

Dream Theater used an orchestra with Metropolis Part 1, didn't they?

...Or was that just for live purposes?
