this'll more than likely be a "lost chapter" like what the new Friday is allegedly going to be. if its a remake, I don't really care if Englund is cast, because he probably won't.

I'm sure it's because he's the only person who's played him, but I just couldn't see Freddy being played by anyone by Englund. Don't get me wrong, I think it'd be interesting, but I'd hate that he wouldn't be in it.

well, eventually some one else will don the glove. Freddy is too big of a character to be left alone after Englund dies. just like Dracula, many actors in 70 years will have played him.

that is true. England won't last forever of course. I guess I like a lot people can't see anyone else playing the part.

Maybe in a few remakes, but the volume of Freddy movies will never equal that of Dracula movies, plain and simple.
I could see someone else doing it, but they'd have some gargantuan shoes to fill. People's impression of Dracula is all relative to the actor that plays him, even though the actual fictional character is relatively the same. Freddy is one way.

I honestly didnt think this franchise would get a facelift of any kind until quite down the road.
Friday the 13th and Halloween are one thing because Micheal and Jason are played by different people more or less entry to entry. Obviously Englund wont last forever however I would think they would leave this alone until atleast he passes or they have his approval. Maybe they do have his approval, maybe they dont.
Either way, more than likely with the way this trendy genre has gone. The lead icon has always been replaced and I would be shocked if they went with Englund I suppose.

^ That isn't a remake, it's a prequel.
I actually think a Nightmare remake could be a good thing in the right hands, which would mean this one would suck, because they would hire some hack music video director. And in the end, I will still end up wasting money just to see if it's any good.
Fucking hollywood.

They should just do it Rob Zombie Halloween style and "re-imagine" it. 30% backstory, and 70% of the current time in which he kills random teenagers. And they should kill Freddy at the end, causing the film to have no sequels.

The nun getting raped or the burning of Freddy? What would you include in the prequel?
There's alot of story there. The rape. The Childhood (which would be great to see) and the early adult life and death. Def not looking for a remake, there's no need of that what so ever.

I'd include all of it. They have a great story to work with if it's done right. I would like to see a fucked up version of Freddy made like August Underground. But it they made it like that it wouldn't be released in theaters or stores. But I think it would be kickass.

"Nightmare" to haunt big screen again
Tuesday January 29 8:50 PM ET
Freddy's back. Again.
New Line is in talks with horror production company Platinum Dunes to re-launch the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movie series, the franchise that helped establish the studio.
The first "Nightmare" movie was made by Wes Craven and released in 1984. The runaway success of the film spawned a slew of sequels and created one of the most popular villains in screen history, Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund.
The film centered on Krueger, a serial child killer murdered by angry parents, who returns with a burned face and a razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams.
A screenwriter will be hired once the Writers Guild of America strike ends. The producers -- Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form -- are hoping to focus part of the new movie on Krueger's backstory.
Platinum Dunes is prepping another re-launch, "Friday the 13th," which will be directed by Marcus Nispel for New Line, for whom it remade "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and its sequel.
The company is remaking "Near Dark" for Rogue and "The Birds" for Universal. It is also prepping a non-remake project, an untitled David Goyer thriller.

What is there to know. These people act like he never had a backstory.
Convicted child murder/molestor gets sent away, but gets released on technicality if im not mistaken. Parents whose kids were murdered find him, burn him inside his house. From there, if you follow Freddy's Dead. The 'dream demons' resurrect him allowing him to kill the children in their dreams.
Not much else to say. But they'll find something else to say. I thought the Halloween remake was entertaining. Nevertheless I think it would take more for this film to really be something different than the original in a good way.

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
This makes me so angry!
I have loved the NIghtmare on Elm Street movies since I was a kid - Freddy was the first to scare the crap out of me and to later entertain me. He does NOT need to be "re-imagined", he's perfect the way he is right now. Granted, he's a little too comedic now - but some people love that about him as well. New Nightmare made him scary again - but the rug was torn out from under him with Freddy Vs. Jason - he only had one kill, etc. Why can't they just make another sequel? Find a way to ressurect him one last time? It would make just as much as a God damn remake - with both die hard fans and little teenyboppers flocking to see it. DUMB!
NO ONE could play Freddy like Robert Englund, NO ONE. New Line better offer him the role because without him they would be NOTHING. They literally are "the house that Freddy built" and they better not forget it. Sadly, they probably think he's too old for the part...which is ridiculous the man is in great shape for his age. *sigh*
If he is in it AS FREDDY I will not hesitate to pay money to see it. If he isn't, I will boycott it.

Actually, the "new Freddy" is actually the side of Freddy that serves as a counter-balance to the evil side of him. Basically, the Freddy we know is the dark half, and this "new Freddy" is the light half. Remember Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth? Basically Freddy is to "new Freddy" as Pinhead was to Elliot Spenser.
And who would you cast as the adult Jacob Johnson? I was thinking Christian Campbell, a fave semi-unknown actor of mine. And yes, he's "Neve Campbell's brother". And yes, he was in "Reefer Madness the Movie Musical". And to those with an interest in gay cinema, you may recognize him as Gabriel from "Trick", but that was the better part of a decade ago.

Three words: I'm... Not... Gay.
I am attracted to women, just not the "Paris Hilton" types. I'm into brainy girls who love all the same things as me. Basically, a mix of Lisa Loeb, Amy Acker and Angela Bettis, with the same mindset as me. A girl who likes video games, anime, comic books, a wide variety of music including everything from punk rock to video game soundtracks to the works of Danny Elfman and many others, a hatred for present-day MTV but a love for '90s-era MTV, whose fave films include cult horror films, Kevin Smith movies, rock operas, superhero films, and those parody films that have been coming down the pipeline since Scary Movie 1, most musicals since RENT, and are staunch supporters of gay rights, pro-life, and stem-cell research, among other things.
I'm not one to point fingers, but I dont know many straight men who have as many gay interests as you. It seems like every post you mention something gay....just an observation. In any event, thanks for being cool with us queens. We appreciate it!

Maybe if you stopped watching Power Rangers land left the house and got in some human social interaction you would be able to tell the difference (even on the internet) between someone being serious and someone being sarcastic.

“I think there is always room for new interpretations by using the new tecnology,” he tells the site. “In the past, they were talking about a prequel. Anyway, I’m too old for this new version, otherwise it would be "FREDDY VS. VIAGRA.” - Freddy Himself.

Here's more info on Englund NOT being Freddy...
Freddy Over Englund?
Krueger rumored to be recast for new Nightmare.
by Stax
February 4, 2008 - Ever since it was reported that New Line Cinema plans to restart its A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, fans have wondered whether actor Robert Englund would reprise his role as the series' iconic serial killer, Freddy Krueger.
ShockTillYouDrop.com claims that the studio and production company Platinum Dunes want to start fresh with a new actor in the role. Englund seems fine with seeing a new actor play the role that made him a horror star.
In an interview with BadTaste.it, Englund said he believes the new Nightmare is "due to the great success of the Rob Zombie version of Halloween and I also liked a lot the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, even if I think the original by Tobe Hooper is perfect. Likewise, I consider the original version of Nightmare on Elm Street a classic of this genre, but I think there is always room for new interpretations by using the new technology. In the past, they were talking about a prequel. Anyway, I'm too old for this new version, otherwise it would be Freddy vs. Viagra."
IGN chatted the other day with Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller, who informed us that all this talk about a new Nightmare franchise is a bit premature. "I have not had any discussions with New Line beyond discussing our interest in the title. So this feels like its down the line a bit," said Fuller, who added that they still need to determine which direction to take before they decide whether Englund will be back as Freddy.

I've read rumor on movies.com a lot of fans think Michael Rosenbaum will be up for the role cuz he's been talking to Michael Bay. Although the rumors a bit of a stretch considering they could be talking about well....anything. I think the guys the best Lex Luthor ever on screen but I dunno about Freddy. I think he'd get the look down good anyway.

Freddy vs. Viagra, lol... If they do bring in another actor I hope he plays it crude and dark and they leave the comedy, that Englund brought, out. I hope balls to wall scarest thing i've ever seen other wise I don't think i'd want to see it without Englund but prob will cause it's be a New Nightmare Flick.

im so tired of remakes i get a headache everytime i see a preview of a new one now.
i dont think casting someone else as Krueger is all so bad though. I understand that Robert England is infamous as freddy but i think it can still work without him if they take it in a different direction, just like I think Heath Ledger will work as Joker in the new batman even though jack nicholson played him in the past and did a fine job. In fact, from the preview I think that Heath could even be a better Joker. If they find the right person to play Freddy the remake has potential to be a good movie but if they continue to use England, its gonna be like watching the same thing over again.

I feel the same way and i have a petition going to try to get them to keep Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger in this remake. If we do nothing then they surely aren't going to change their minds, but if something is done then at least there's some chance it could work.
This is different than with any other remake because Robert Englund has been the ONLY Freddy Krueger throughout 8 films and a television series, plus many promos. He clearly IS Freddy Krueger and he's just as popular today as he was back in the 80's so it's wayyy too early for him to be replaced. I've met Robert 4 times at horror conventions and i know for a fact he signs thousands of autographs at each convention, If most people didn't see him as Freddy then i don't think he'd be that popular (even though he's great in all his other films). He is so talented in everything, but Freddy has always been his specialty. It's like firing someone who's been loyal to a job for 24 years! It just isn't right.
Please sign the petition if you feel the same way i do about this remake at the link in my signature.
