oh get over it, the guy was great five years ago and now his knees cant even support his upper body. I cant say that he's a hack since he has a lot of rings. But the guy is way over the hill and needs to retire after this year. Wade himself has even hinted towards Shaq needing to retire. He's missed a lot of games and his stats are low compared to his other years. there are so many other and better centers out there that need to be in the all star game. Howard is a givin and Okafor and Bosh are good too.

Shaq has had his glory years and now he needs to let some fresh faces take over.

An All-Star game without Shaquille O'Neal isn't an All-Star game, it's a travesty. There's a reason they call it an "All-Star game" and not the "Pity Vote Play-in." He's hurt, having carried too much weight for too long, and, bottom-line, is a shadow of his former self and abilities.

ah hell you dont have to bring out stats proving that he sucks right now.
Just watch a game and anybody with eyes can see it.

Give me a break. Any other center averaging what Shaq is this season would be praised. He is injuried, he can't help that. It isn't his knees its his hip. He reaggervated it awhile back.

Point is its the all star game, he is still an all star. Sure he is getting older and his stats are lower, but he still is freaking Shaquille O'Neal. He should have an honorary roster spot in every all-star game.

Beware, that is a ridiculous way to look at it. You're taking a spot away from a more deserving player because Shaq should have "an honorary roster spot in every all star game"? That's ludicrous. Shaq is one of my favorite players, but the all star game is for the players who have played the best up to this point. Shaq has been declining for a few seasons now and he finally has declined to the point where he is no longer one of the BEST big men in the league anymore.

Shaq hasnt been that good for awhile now. Even when Miami went all the way two years ago. He was more or less a glorified second scorer.

He should hang em up after this year. Dominant for his time but well beyond his best years.

All I gotta say is Shaq deserved to be an All-Star, he makes the entire weekend entertaining. Ask anyone who goes. His signature shoes are a staple, his break dancing with the young guys is great to see. His outfits are always tight and he always has at least 1 play in the game that is highlight worthy. Hell, 2 years ago he attempted a 3 and it ALMOST went in. I think he has made 1 his entire career...

It just isn't the same without him.

I will watch for Dwyane Wade, but that is about it.

And come on the coaches picking Bosh as the center? The dude is weak....he isn't a center.

IKAFTL and Three 6 Mafia: AS weekend is from Feb 15-17. ASG is on the 17th. Dunk, 3 pt, etc. are on the 16th.

Beware: Shaq is very entertaining, yes. I'd be all for it if they wanted to give him a bonus spot, but he shouldn't be there INSTEAD of any of the guys who made it.

So let me get this right...all the coaches in the league agree that Bosh deserves a spot and they are all wrong?? But cause Shaq shows off his Target brand sneaker, and can break dance you think he deserves a spot? This isnt a dance contest or show and tell! This is the cream of the crop of the NBA, You have to admit, Shaq was only a dunker and average rebounder, NOW that he cant dunk anymore he has no game, cant rebound, no D, no free throws...NO ALL-STAR VOTE. By the way Bosh is averaging almost 23 points and 9 rebounds compared to 14 & 7?? Even Chris Kaman avg. 17 & 14 and he's in the stronger conference. I think I have made my point, Shaq is whack and if he knew what was best he walked away from the 40 million he has left for the next 2 years cause he's basiclly stealing that money from the Heat. FUCK'EM!!!!!!!

Beware

Don't ever say "fuck you" to Shaq, that is blasphemy.

Fuck you for saying that.

It might not even be a big deal to him, but to me...it literally pains me this legend was denied the record of consecutive all-star appearances because of injury. He has been selected when he was injured and didn't play. If y'all think Bosh deserved it, fine then take it away from Johnson from the Hawks. He didn't deserve a spot, and Shaq did and still does.

in a leauge that gets you into the all star game based on name reconition and star power first (Iverson) it should tell you something that he wasn't put in.

Garnett is going, but he is hurt. If Shaq could play, he could of potentially filled that spot.

Ray Allen isn't going. His name says he should be, but his stats don't.

Just because everybody knows the name on the back of your jersey doesn't mean that you should get in. The players has to put up great stats to get into the all star game. Face it Shaq is not any good any more and needs to call it quits before he embrasses the Heat more then they already are.

MIAMI -- The voting is complete, the ballots have been counted and Miami Heat center Shaquille O'Neal's record-tying streak of 14 straight All-Star selections has ended.

Right?

Well, maybe not.

At least, Heat coach Pat Riley isn't quite ready to concede that.

"It's not done yet," Riley said Friday. "The final, final, final decision isn't done yet."

Stopping short of saying he'll personally urge the NBA to add O'Neal to the Eastern Conference roster for the Feb. 17 game in New Orleans, Riley did say he believes commissioner David Stern should have the option of adding someone to the roster when the situation is warranted.

In Riley's mind, this would be one of those situations.

"I really think that the 12 most deserving players should get it. I do," Riley said. "The most deserving should get it and I think the commissioner should always have the right, for somebody who has done so much for the league, for whatever reason, to add a 13th guy to come and be part of the whole thing."

O'Neal is still headed to New Orleans. The former LSU center, who championed a number of charity efforts after the Hurricane Katrina disaster, is expected to host at least two parties and appear at several other events.

"He's going to be part of the All-Star festivities specifically to raise money," Riley said. "So I would think the NBA should give him a role. A role. Just like they bring a lot of veteran players in that have retired, they're always around, I think he should have a major role in something."

If an All-Star roster spot opens, through injury or trade, Stern could add O'Neal to the East lineup.

Unless that happens, though, O'Neal -- one of only three players in history, joining Jerry West and Karl Malone, to be selected to 14 straight All-Star teams -- will just be a very large onlooker.

"We're thrilled that Shaq plans to be in New Orleans and we look forward to having him participate in any and all of the 'NBA Cares' events that we are doing," NBA spokesman Tim Frank said.

O'Neal is averaging 14.2 points this season, a career low, and is currently sidelined by a hip injury. In his last public comments on the issue last week, O'Neal said he didn't know if his hip would be healed in time for All-Star weekend anyway, something that may have had a role in the outcome of the coaches' vote.

Orlando's Dwight Howard won by a wide margin in the fan balloting for the East's starting center, and O'Neal said last week that he believed the fans made the right choice.

In the coaches' poll for the reserve spots, which the NBA revealed Thursday, there was no true backup center selected. Toronto's Chris Bosh, a forward, likely will wind up being the de facto backup center in the game that usually becomes a freewheeling offensive showcase anyway.

"It could have went a lot of different ways," said Heat guard Dwyane Wade, who was voted in as a starter by the fans. "I was actually surprised there were no centers selected at all, more so than Shaq not being selected."

MIAMI -- Hours after Miami Heat coach Pat Riley said he still believes Shaquille O'Neal deserves an All-Star Game role, a differing opinion was heard.

It was from O'Neal himself.

"As the general of this squad, I wouldn't deserve to be an All-Star," O'Neal said Friday evening. "And if they gave me the spot, I wouldn't take it, because I don't want to be given anything."

So with that, O'Neal's record-tying streak of 14 consecutive All-Star selections ends.

He wasn't voted by fans as an Eastern Conference starter last week, and when the coaches' votes for reserves for the Feb. 17 game were released Thursday, O'Neal wasn't on that list either.

Still, Riley didn't sound so willing to abandon the O'Neal All-Star quest earlier Friday, when he said his center merited a role in New Orleans and that commissioner David Stern should have the option of adding someone to the roster when the situation is warranted.

"I really think that the 12 most deserving players should get it. I do," Riley said. "The most deserving should get it and I think the commissioner should always have the right, for somebody who has done so much for the league, for whatever reason, to add a 13th guy to come and be part of the whole thing."

O'Neal was flattered. But his mind is made up.

"I appreciate my coach for sticking up for me, but I don't want to be handed anything," said O'Neal, whose run of 14 straight selections matched Jerry West and Karl Malone as the most in NBA history.

O'Neal is averaging 14.2 points this season, a career low, and is currently sidelined by injuries to his hip and thigh.

"When I get healthy, I'll be back," O'Neal said. "Right now, I'm just concentrating on being 1,000 percent. I haven't been 1,000 percent in four or five years. I've been given orders to get 1,000 percent healthy."

Orlando's Dwight Howard won by a wide margin in the fan balloting for the East's starting center, and O'Neal believes fans made the right choice.

"Congratulations to Dwight Howard and congratulations to all the other guys that they voted in, put in," O'Neal said. "But I'm having troubles, and it wouldn't be fair to my teammates for me to try to get ready to play in the All-Star Game if I did get in."

In the coaches' poll for the reserve spots, there was no true backup center selected.

Dunk of the night was when he threw the ball of the backboard with one hand and dunked it with the other. The 'Superman' dunk shouldn't havent counted (technically) cause he didnt dunk it, he threw it in...but cause of all the hype with the Superman outfit, they didnt care.
