Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) pay homage to the grindhouse films of yesteryear with their own B-movie double bill. This throwback bonanza consists of two feature-length horror films - Tarantino's Death Proof follows a murderous stuntman (Kurt Russell) who takes to stalking women, while Rodriquez's zombie feature Planet Terror is about a motley group of survivors who do battle against a zombie virus that has infected their small town. Complete with four fake trailers from Robert Rodriguez, Eli Roth (Hostel), Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead), and Rob Zombie (Halloween), Grindhouse is an indulgent, entertaining, and downright epic exercise in exploitation, serving up blood and schlotz in double portions.

This six-disc Japan release Grindhouse boxset comes with:

Disc 1: Feature Film Death Proof
Disc 2: Death Proof Bonus Features
Disc 3: Feature Film Planet Terror
Disc 4: Planet Terror Bonus Features
Disc 5: Grindhouse (US Theatrical Release Version)
Disc 6: Japan Exclusive Grindhouse Bonus Features
- Grindhouse US Version Original Trailer
- 2006 San Diego Comicon - Director and Cast Q&A
- Tarantino Interview in Japan
- Cast & Crew Comments (including Tarantino, Rodriguez, and Fake Trailer Directors)
- Grindhouse Films Featurette
- Making of Planet Terror

With that being released, it's only a matter of time before they release the "deluxe" here in the States. The only thing that I know for sure that's going to be on the 2nd DVD release of Grindhouse is the "Hobo with a Shotgun" trailer. Since the director annouced that he signed a contract/deal with Dimension to have it on the DVD

Why the hell is Japan getting it first?

It's an American movie, thus the American market should get the best stuff first. I mean, when they do an Inuyasha movie, does it get released over here first? HELL NO! But yet, OUR movies and TV shows are the ones that get the uber-cool releases overseas instead of over here where it should be. And this isn't the first time, either. The Phantasm Quadrilogy was released in this kickass box set over in the UK (the set was shaped like a sphere, like the ones from the films), but all we got was the first and third films, and yet we STILL don't have a decent DVD release of 2 and 4.

IMO, they should make it up to the American market by giving us a better version of this to make up for this treason.

It's also above, but in case you didn't see it, here's the link:

Buy it, unlock you DVD player to play all Region DVDs and enjoy. That, or just pop it in your computer. The world isn't fair, you just need to deal with that fact. There are worse things in the world to complain about, and this is no where near the top. So please, stop bitching  .

just what I was waiting for, I refused to buy them seperately but this seems to be like a nice reward for my patience.

The Phantasm Quadrilogy

Anyone who uses the made up word created to sell the alien movies doesn't deserve to watch movies on dvd. It's a tetralogy.

6 discs?? Fuck that. I'd rather just buy the 2 disc dvd with both films.

Separate discs of bonus material for each half, plus a collective Grindhouse bonus disc?

Sounds like a whole lot of padding to me.

These movies kinda sucked imo. They could of been so much better. Id rather if they cut the tribute to The Grindhouse and just had a serious zombie movie. They had the $ and resources to do so, they just kinda blew it. They could of had a 3 hour zombie epic with a surprise appearance by Machete...id cream myself if they did that instead.

It's called wikipedia (AKA bullshit) and both boxsets came from 20th century fox, who didn't bother to look up the word tetralogy.

I thought quadrilogy WAS the word. My bad.

EDIT: Oh, wait. Quadrilogy IS a word.

And "quadrilogy" was also used for marketing the Die Hard series boxset.

So, there's the "Alien Quadrilogy" and the "Die Hard Quadrilogy".

It's called "research".You're also citing a user-edited source.

The tetra- prefix is the one most often seen in other areas when referring to four of anything. While "Quad" is a legitimate prefix in other areas (quadrangle, quadrant, etc.) I'd like to see any citation of its use in referring to a series of four of anything (i.e. "quadrilogy") before it's invention by 20th c. fox.

Simply Fox went with Quadrilogy because most people are more familiar with Quad then Tetra as the prefix signifying 4 of something.

I'll wait until the Region 1 deluxe boxset comes out since I don't have a region-free DVD player at the moment. I understood why the films were split but I never totally supported it. Grindhouse came out as one film in it's entirety and that's how I would like to purchase/view it.

What I would like to see is the two unrated/extended films merged into one with the implemented trailers, rather than a seperate unabriged theatrical version with the trailers and the unrated/extended films seperate like in the Japanese release. But that's only wishful thinking. Just as long as I get the two movies in one package, I'll be happy.

I did not like these enough to warrant me spending that kind of cash on them.

I like that it has the trailers, I might splurge.
