I was looking around for PS3s and I found this guy that has been doing mystery auctions. He found his way through the red tape and made it possible. Even though 40 or so of the listings list an 80gb PS3, you're really bidding on an envelope. This envelope could contain anything from 1 cent to a receipt for a PS3. It's chosen randomly by a computer. Are these things legit or what?

Anybody ever bid on a mystery auction on E-bay, and if so, what did you win?

Generally, someone like this needs to be just legitimate enough to not get busted or bad feedback.

40 auctions against a single PS3? I wouldn't do it. You may get lucky, but those are not good odds. Just save up and buy one at the store. Use whatever money you saved by not bidding on this auction to help get a decent game.

Just pay the $400 or you wont be getting a PS3.

Same basic concept, but I think it was a different seller.

Just to clarify, I was not doing the mystery auction, I'm not much of a gambler personally. I'm still not getting a PS3 for a while now. I'm gonna save up about $50 a week till I have enough and then get one. I'm in no hurry.

I was really just kinda wondering if anybody had ever won anything or tried it or gotten screwed by one. And if so, how do people get through the ebay laws.
