LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Roy Scheider, the actor best known for his role as a police chief in the blockbuster movie “Jaws,” has died. He was 75.

Scheider died Sunday at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, hospital spokesman David Robinson said. The hospital did not release a cause of death.

However, hospital spokeswoman Leslie Taylor said Scheider had been treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital’s Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years.

One of the industries best there ever was.

He was a player for a long time.

I'll always remember him for J A W S and the French Connection.

Great actor. One of my favs. The chemestry he and the others had together in JAWS was beyond perfect.

He didn't even know I was alive and I'm supposed to care that he died? I must have missed his all of his condolence letters when my friends and family members died :mecry:

He was great in Jaws and this guy got to portray Doctor Benway on screen, that's pretty damn cool.
