View Full Version : Age You First Started Seeing Horror Movies In Theatres?
Late For Reality

I was about 7.
One of the earliest horror flicks I remember catching in the Cinema was "Scream". That movie came out in '96, I was born in '89. So I just figure I was 7. I also managed to catch Scream 2 and Scream 3 in theatres. And I've seen all three in different states. :)
I went mostly with my older brother. He is 5 years older than me. We're such huge horror movie fans and been to the cinema countless times.
The cinema's here aren't too strict. Just as long as my dad bought the ticket for me, and told them I could handle it, and I shut the fuck up, I was let in.
There were occasions I went by myself also. I remember seeing "The Faculty" by myself. And same with "Hollow Man". I'm sure there was more I went to when I was younger but can't remember at this very moment.
So how old were you when you visited the Cinema regularly to view horror?

I was way too young. I remember hearing stories of my parents taking me to drive in movies before I could even walk. if you are asking when I remember or a theater it would have to be when I was 4 which isn't anything new in my family. My Niece started watching horror movies at theaters at 3 (now 4)

the first scary movie that my parents took me to see was jaws 3d, i was 7 and i remember losing my 3d glasses right before they blew up the shark. my oldest daughter's first in the theaters was resident evil, she was 6. ( i was pregnant with my youngest so i wonder if that counts for her too?) my youngest has been watching them at home since she was born, but her first one was cloverfield (she is 5). my old man told me that when he was a newborn his parents took him to see the original TCM in a drive in.
i wish they would play the OG TCM at the drive in by me
thatd be fuckin tightt
ur oldman is lucky to have seen it there...thatd be soo bad ass

How old are you when you're in the 5th grade? I don't do math so I ain't adding nothing up but I was in 5th grade when my aunt and older cousins came to get me from school. We rushed to the theater and saw Scream. Was fun.

Drive ins in mid-late 80s with the family, so technically 3 or 4 since i was born in '83. First one... can't remember, I want to say the shining or something similar...but I'm likely off by a movie or two. I do remember seeing Alien and the original Exorcist at the drive in back then.

I remember as a kid thinking that Creature from the Black Lagoon was one of the sweetest damn things around. Probably the first "horror" movie to watch as a kid if you consider it one.

I'm 24 and I still have never seen a horror movie in a movie theater. I very rarely watch movies at the movie theater.
It was in 1994 when I lived in Mexico. I was 6 or 7. Mexico had this movie channel in where sometimes they had horror movie marathons. I saw the first 3 Jaws movies in one night.
I remember once it was Werewolf night and I saw this movie that had werewolf nuns.

You are not missing much. Teenagers laughing, talking, and texting these days far outweigh the pros sometimes of a theater experience
15 or 16 I believe, 'cause that's when I got a job to actually pay to go to the movies.

I'm sure you understood/remembered everything from that movie when you were 3
You were probably too busy picking gum off the bottom of the theater seats to watch the movie.:D
As for this topic...I dunno, who cares :D

When I was very very young, my folks wanted to go to the drive in to see "Enter the Dragon" (It hadn't been out very long, so that should give you a clue as to how old I was at the time), and I remember having to lay on the floor covered by a blanket so they'd be allowed in. After that, another feature came on.
"Pirana" (yes I know there's another letter in there but I'm tired!)
I peeked around the gap between the seats when they weren't looking and saw the bit where the old man fishing on the dock gets his feet eaten...I refused to go anywhere near the lake for months after! Even swimming pool drains freaked me cause I thought the "killer fish" would swim up and get me.
Ahhhh good times...good times.

Not missing much. Only time I go out to see a flick these days is during the summer when the drive-in upstate is open. No idiots ruining it besides the ones in the car with me...hehe. Plus its still a double feature drive-in for around the same price as a theater ticket for 1 movie.
Always liked drive-ins...
