short film I made back in the summer, finally got this bitch on youtube, had some coding issues a friend helped me fix. I'm gonna adjust a few little things on this sucker and update it pretty soon.

I take pride in this little short film, mainly because I did something I wasnt sure I'd be able to do: scare the shi* out of my entire film class. I wasnt really expecting to get the desired effect here, but I did. Nothing like waytching 25 people jump a few inches out of their seats(not bullshi*ting either).

So here's the short, I filmed this in about 4 hours, edited it for 8, used few storybaords and wished that the terrain I filmed on had more space. I had some tracking shots, and other shots I couldnt get because the trail was only about a yard wide, there were other hikers, and there was SO much unsteady ground.

So I'll let you gents and gentles take a gander.

pretty cool man, I enjoyed watching it, how'd you come up with the idea?

Some japanese horror for 'the thing' obviously. Though I will admit, I didnt want to do a ringu ghost girl, but I only had one actress. Wasnt able to get any more(summer school, less willing participants) so I just used some old make up I had, a different set of clothes and had her shamble around a bit.

The idea itself is also japanese horror inspired somewhat. Getting told little information about some kind of curse, or mystery, to the point where it attention catching. Curiosity is always good in film.

As for the trail concept itself, well I just needed some location where I could be able to film alone(minus the occasional hikers) had some decent lighting, and had a strong enogh atmosphere of its own.

So we went location scouting, found this place and just hiked around, made notes and that was that. I made about 3 pages of rough storyboards, came up with a quick make up look that I fucked up on and had to make up something on the spot and all we had to do was stay ahead of the setting sun.

I used some Music from the resident evil games, and 'the things' shriek is actually a hard raspy exhale noise I can make that I sped up and played with in post.

The 'music' that plays when 'the thing' makes its appearance isnt music at all, I managed to perform about a 11-13 second soft exhale(like soft wind blowing) and then slowed it down to 25% or so and added some other effects in post.

I wasnt expecting to actually scare anyone with this.
