Based on the PS2 game Yakuza, director Takashi Miike blends his weird taste and humor into the mix, making the film a somewhat confusing, but entertaining watch. I've only played a little of the beginning of the game, so I can't really relate the film to it, and I didn't actually know this was based on the game until after watching it. However, while watching the film, I kept thinking to myself how similar it is to the PS2 game, so it makes sense.
The storyline is a bit jumbled and confusing in parts, but it might have been due in part of some of the subtitling and the fact that I didn't actually play much of the game to understand the significance to some of these characters. Regardless, I enjoyed the film to an extent, and had the story made more sense to me, I probably would have liked it more.
