I really enjoyed the series and was anxiously anticipating the film. I was lucky enough to finally catch it earlier and, as I thought I would, loved it. Great film, and in my opinion, on par with City of God. Of course this is merely a continuation of the acclaimed series (also titled "City of Men") and bares no actual connection to City of God. If you haven't seen the series, see it now! Then go see the movie.

No, but it's better to watch the series first, to get a much better understanding of the characters and what they've gone through. The movie does offer a few flashbacks to help those that haven't seen the series, though.
