I've started reading Volume 1 of the Oldboy series, which was included in the Oldboy LE 3-disc Tin that I purchased about a year or two ago. I've enjoyed it thus far and plan on reading the entire series. Could anybody recommend any other good manga series out there that I should read?

Thanks. I saw it in the bookstore the other day as well as the Death Note series. I'm thinking about eventually picking these up.

I downloaded the Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni series a while back (only downloaded it because they haven't published it in America yet). I haven't read them all yet, but the ones I have read were intense. Crazy awsome stuff. Very brutal at times.

Well, I got a few to promote:

BLAME!-series. If you like cybergothic feel, murderous cyborgs and lots of cool action (the silent laconic hero has a gun which's laser leaves a trail of destruction as long as 70 kilometers!), You should try Blame!

The story is told more in the "adventure"-type rather than explaining everything in detail. There is little dialogue, and some "logs" or "episodes" have no dialogue at all. If you've read the Halo graphic novel, you know this artist, since he made the story where that colonel escaped from the Flood-infested area.

Then theres Priest manwha, horror spaghetti-western with zombies, and fallen angels hellraiser-style. Do I really need to tell you more? (well, except that the artist have taken a lot of inspiration from Mignolas awesome black-white stuff in Hellboy). Once again I'll show some cool pics and scans when I get my post count running.

Dragon Head, Catastrophe-manga with psychological horror elements. I like the way how every survivor of the horrific events are afraid of this "thing" in the darkness, smiling at them. But no-one can tell what it is, theyre just afraid of it. The story begins from a setting that this high school kid is in the train back to home from a school class trip. His friend sees a weird red thing in the sky just before they go to a tunnel. Shortlyafter, something strucks their train and it falls over. Our poor hero wakes up only to realise hes the only one alive in the train,(though later he finds 2 other survivors) and both sides of the tunnel have caved in. So towards the end his mind starts to play tricks at him in the constant darkness, with all the corpses around.

That one has me laughing sometimes. So in-SANE!

I hear "Godchild" is pretty good. If you're into gothic fiction.

Well, I just started collecting this series called "Reiko the Zombie shop".

And I gotta say, it's sweet gory zombie action right there. The main idea is this:

The main character is a schoolgirl with satanic marks on her hands. She has an occupation known as "zombie shop", meaning she can raise the dead for money. Usually she works for families who lost their kids so they could have a one final chat with them, but sometimes she stumbles upon more weird and sinister cases. And these cases usually end up violently :D

the first manga was awesome. not that deep, but even the blurb in the back said it's as fun as Evil Dead is. Definitely recommended for all guro fans.
