Not sure if any of you have watched the anime or are a fan of it, but I really enjoyed the anime. Crazy stuff. For those who don't know the anime, it's a murder mystery/horror/sometimes comedy anime that takes place in the 1980s and is about a boy who moves to a small village in Japan called Hinamizawa. He makes friends with four girls; one is a year older than him, one is his age, and the other two are a couple years younger. He enjoys the place a lot until he discovers about the past of the village. Every year on the night of the Watanagashi Festival (Cotton drifting Festival) one person is killed and another person goes missing. They say it is the curse of their God they call Oyashiro-sama. As it goes along, he learns more into the past and explores into the mystery behind the deaths and dissapearences.
Now, that's the basic explanation of the anime. However, the anime can be really confusing at times, which is why they have a second series to it to explain it a bit better, but the reason why I've said all of this is because they are making a live action movie for it that comes out in Japan next month. I'm not sure how long it'll take for it to reach America, but hopefully it won't take too long. Here's a few trailers and some scenes from the movie coming up. It looks really good and creepy, just like the anime:

My friend and I are half way through the anime series, which is very strange. It started out great until everything is reverted back again and we go through the same characters each time, only learning more about them. So far, the anime is interesting, but kinda pointless. Hopefully the second part makes more sense.
The movie looks decent, but is it like the anime where it keeps refreshing or does it follow just one story?

I'm not sure if they will do the movie like that or not, but I can tell you that every part that reverts back is important. I think it was in the 25 episode it explains a little bit about some of the reverting and new scenes, and in the next series, which I haven't started yet, explains everything more clearly, from what I hear. It's still pretty confusing to me, but a couple of my friends say that the second series clears up a lo of the confusion. All I know is that each story shown in the anime is meant to explain more into the character because it'll be important later on.
Like I said, I'm not too sure how they are doing the movie, but hopefully they'll do it to where it's not too confusing.

There's 26 on the first part, and in the second part, which is called Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai, there's 24.

Ah okay, I was confused for a while by how many there were, because Geneon stopped releasing volumes after the third, so I had to download the fansubs, but I apparently downloaded the second season and not the first :ahheh:

Yeah, I heard that about Geneon a little bit back. Sucks pretty hard. They were releasing a lot of good stuff. Anyway, yeah, that's actually what my friend did too, so he actually watched the second season first instead of the first
Oh, and by the way, they're also making a third season to it too. Not sure when it's release in Japan will be, though.

Cool, i'm gonna start watching the first series on Crunchyroll.com.
Just seen the start of the first episode, of a guy beating the shit outta someone with a baseball bat. I think i'm gonna like this.
Is the game Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri available yet?

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. No, it's not out for American release yet, not sure if it will. I think there's a team that's working on it, though. But yeah, this whole series first started out as the video game.
And yeah, if you love that part, wait until you watch some more.

Have you read the Manga?

I've read some of it. Not the whole thing, just the first book, I think. I downloaded it a while back since it hasn't been official translated and released yet, but I found a translated version of the whole series. I just need to start reading it again, but it's pretty awsome so far.

Actually the first season is spectacular, nothing is explained but things are hinted at, the timeline just keeps resetting with events occuring in different ways.
There is some good humor, but this is all kinds of Mystery and horror thats just esquisite, the second series is more mystery and exposition. I caught the first 5 eps and was very dissapointed. Friend of mine actually finished the series and said it was a little 'meh'.
Yeah things are explained, but I didnt really want everything explained in the second season, I wanted more horror and more mysteryas they did a really amazing job with season one.
A third season could be interesting I guess...I dunno. To me the first season is really just the best.
The reason Geneon stopped releasing it, is that Geneon went under not too long ago.
Even With Hellsing, and a lot of other titles, they just didnt perform very well unfortunatelly.
Long live fansubs.

Has any company gotten the rights to Geneon's titles yet?

Word is that Funimation will likely pick up some of the more popular titles from Geneon. Dunno if the deal is set in stone yet, but apparently Funimation has been interested in their titles since Geneon's announcement of stepping down.

Okay, i've finished the first season. An amazing anime, I love the story arcs. It really confused me though after the first reset. Probably me favourite timeline is the Sonozaki Shion one.
Those laughs really creep me the fuck out, I love it!
I'll be starting season 2 soon and can't wait for the movie.

I didnt like how season 2 started so I stopped watching after ep 5, might get back to it sometime though. Hope you enjoy it though.

Yeah, I've heard it wasn't too great, but it cleared up some confusion, so I'll be watching sometime soon too. My favorite arc was definetely the first.
***MAY CONTAIN MINOR SPOILER***
I love the part when Keichi confronts Rena, and Rena's eyes and voice change like she changes to a different person. Creepy as hell. You can actually see this part right before it happens in the movie trailer.
I love the Shion one too. That scene where she was talking to Mion in the cell was crazy. Shion sounded like she was calming down a bit, but out of no where, she goes fuckin' nuts and starts yelling like crazy. Creeped the hell out of me.
***END***
And yeah, I'm so excited for this movie, it looks so great and creepy, and I can't wait to see some of the crazy parts in the anime in live action  .

first story arc of season one was epic.

Yeah it was definitely surprising, one minute they're all happy and there's plenty of comedy next the character's are all dark and psychotic. LIES! Rena's laugh *shivers*

Rena's laugh made me laugh, its just the stereotypical japanese crazy girl laugh. Actually its as cliche as Something very cliche next to a book signing on cliches with a foreward on movie cliches by Sylvester Stallone.

Oh, and the live action Higurashi doesn't look so hot. I've seen worse, but it doesnt feel right. Not gonna lie though, I am jealous that a live action film was done before I could do one., so i am a little biased. But we'll see.

Rena's laugh weirded me out. I first watched it, and I thought "What the hell?" It was weird and creepy.
Yeah, I'm not going to be surprised if it doesn't come out as good as I expect, but I have really high hopes for it. I can't help it. Watching the trailer, it looks like it could fit in snug with the anime and mangas. The trailers are creepy as hell too, so I'm going to expect some good things from this.

Just finished the second season. Just as good as the first and makes me appreciate the first season a whole lot more. The final story arc in this season was so exciting, and if you haven't watched it yet you definitely should.
Also here is a Higurashi no naku Koro ni - Special (http://www.crunchyroll.com/series-5214/Higurashi-no-Naku-Koro-ni-Special.html) bonus episode off the DVD release. It's just a filler episode but it's very entertaining.
Also I heard that the Movie is going to be based on the first story arc only.

My friend and I are almost done with the first season, but since only comes over every 2 or 3 weeks, it's taking us a while to finish :ahheh:

Haha, damn, I still need to start the second season >.<. Going to try this week  .
And yeah, I think it's just on the first arc, which is fine with me because I loved the first arc.
