I saw this movie when I was checking out Predator 2 at the Library and read Cannablism was in the story on the back, something I havn't watched that often honestly. So I checked it out and lets say it was an interesting film.
The film stars Guy Pearce (Count of Monte Christo and The Time Machine) as the newly awarded Cap. Boyd who took an entire enemy fort during the Mexican War. However, an incident where he's reluctant to eat a Bloody Steak at a fancy dinner and the means of him taking the fort make his higher ups question him and makes his reward be transfered to a Californian Outpost where pretty much nothing happens. The parts there are played by well known actors like Jeffrey Jones, John Spencer, David Arquette, and Neal McDonough. Some serious and others comedic. But when it seems like life is going to be boring out on the fronter, a stranger shows up who's been lost for months, played by Robert Carlyle. He tells a story of there travel to the west, how things turned for worse. From there, the story goes on with a few twists and turns, some predictable and some you don't see coming.
This movie is rather underated I feel. The actors play there parts well and the story uses true mythology, adding a new turn to Cannabilism. The one thing I think hurt this film was at times it was too comedic, for instance a chase scene has a hick old time soundtrack for it, even though it had dramatic horror like music in the scene before it.
Here's the IMDB link, I give it a 7/10. Anyone else seen this and like it?
