8 beat up girl to film and put on YouTube

LAKELAND, Fla. — Eight teenagers have been arrested on charges alleging they beat another teen in an "animalistic attack" so they could make a videotape to post on YouTube.

Seven of them remained in juvenile detention tpday, authorities said. A boy who was charged as an adult had been released on bail.

Victoria Lindsay was attacked on March 30 by six teenage girls when she arrived at a friend's home, authorities said.

One of the girls struck the 16-year-old victim on the head several times and then slammed her head into a wall, knocking her unconscious, according to an arrest report.

Yeah, so basically, they called her over to a "friend's" house where they then ambushed her and severely beat her and they filmed it all, planning to post it on YouTube (not stupid at all). The beating went on for around a half hour.

Anyway, as far as it goes, it would be nice to see them doing some time, and by the sound of it, it sounds very probable considering how much they're being charged with. And if not, hopefully they'll be taking a lot of shit when they get back to school. Very sad seeing the picture of how badly damaged she was, and it was disturbing watching the video. Really fucked up. Hope the victim will have a good recovery, and hope the eight offenders get what's coming to them.

Someone had posted the picture of the suspects on another forum I'm on. And yeah, I guess the picture that I posted about how badly she was injured wasn't of this situation. However, that doesn't change the fact that this girl was treated for a consussion, damage to her left ear and her left eye, and tons of bruises. She was also knocked unconscious during the incident. And so far, from what I've heard, none of these girls or guys have any remorse for what they have did, though, I'm sure if they get tried as adults, they'll have some regret on what they did only because of the trouble they're in.

girls talk shit about each other all the time, really its in there genes, but I dont think any real hard or mean intent is behind most of these cases, and I doubt that this girl was either given the fact that she was too scared to even fight back after already being thrown into the situation. During an appearance in adult court, a judge today set bail for the teenagers charged with beating a Lakeland cheerleader.

Each was held on at least $30,000 bond.

Prosecutors had decided on Thursday to charge seven Polk County teens -- accused of pummeling a 16-year-old and videotaping it for YouTube and MySpace -- as adults. An eighth teen is 18 years old and already is considered an adult under the law.

Today's appearance was held in a small courtroom at the Central County Jail in Bartow and shown on a live video feed to a judge in her courtroom.

During the session, none of the teenagers spoke, although they showed a range of emotions from being upset to laughing and giggling. During her part of the hearing, Brittany Mayes, who faces a kidnapping charge which is punishable by up to life in prison, tilted her head with a somber expression on her face. She also faces charges of battery and tampering with a witness.

All eight face charges of battery and kidnapping, punishable by up to life in prison. They are Mercades Nichols, 17; April Cooper, 14; Brittni Hardcastle, 17; Kayla Hassell, 15; Brittany Mayes, 17; Cara Murphy, 16; Zachary Ashley, 17; and Stephen Schumaker, 18.

Nichols, Hardcastle and Mayes face an additional charge of tampering with a witness, which carries up to a five-year prison term.

All of the teens are from Lakeland except Hassell, who is from Mulberry.

Some weird news on this:

The teen accused of masterminding a videotaped "animalistic" attack against a fellow teenage classmate is out on bond, and she has celebrity talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw to thank for it, according to a bail bondsman.

The bondsman told media gathered at a Polk County jail Friday that Dr. Phil posted Mercedes Nichols' $30,000 bond.

When Nichols was released from jail, a man arrived and idenfitied himself as a Dr. Phil producer and ordered local media to leave the area because the Dr. Phil Show had exclusive rights to the story, according to reporters on scene.

The man refused to comment about why Dr. Phil would help someone accused of such a violent crime leave jail, and he would not confirm if Dr. Phil paid for her bond.
