Thought I'd make an official thread for a kick-ass band like these guys.
Went to FYE and picked up the 1st 6 CDs remastered. I forgot how much I love this band and will probably never stop. Been getting into Piece of Mind ALOT! Gonna get their newest next....only one I don't have. There's a magic that exists in this band. The double ax attack, great vocals, progressive drumming, and great timing all blend into one of metal's finest bands. Anyone else feel the love for these guys?

Steve Harris is one of the first metal bass players to make his instrument interesting. Lots of mofos here in NY got into the bass when Iron Maiden came around. Usually people get into the guitar or drums first...SH made the bass cool again.

..you better not have just called Judas Priest power metal. King Diamond is also not power metal either. Do NOT go there.
..you better not have just called Judas Priest power metal. King Diamond is also not power metal either. Do NOT go there.
Wow I think I will go there on this one. In the late 80's there was a movement of Brittish metal bands, Bands with duo Guitars, High pitch vocals, and pure loudness. look at three of these bands Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and King Diamond what do they have in common?
-All 3 are part of what is known as the "Brittish Invasion"(Which is not named correctly cause some bands like King Diamond are not Brittish"
-All three are know for the harmonizing guitar techinques
-all three have extremely high pitched vocals
-All three wore leather with studs (which was started by power metal)
-All three where epic
there are many different types of power metal now a days, which mainly has just gotten more epic. But these bands are the roots and what started it, if you can't tell then maybe a musicial theory book is in order. Because as someone who knows theory, and alot bout metal I have always know Judas Priest, Irom Maiden, and King Diamond to be power metal. I know I am not alone on this as well, in fact you may be one of the first people to ever say Judas priest is not power metal.

A lot of bands have high pitched vocals and wear studs, it does not make them power metal. Look at early Anthrax for example . I would lump all three into a heavy metal category, especially Priest and Iron Maiden. King Diamond has SOME power metal influences due to the vocals, but like I said, vocals do NOT make a band power metal. And you cannot say Diamond is power metal for the fact that along with Venom, Mercyful Fate is one of the founding bands to create black metal. It makes me cringe to think anyone can lump Judas Priest or Maiden into a power metal category. Look at bands like Into Eternity and Scar Symmetry, just because they have high pitched vocals doesn't mean they are power metal
Some examples of power metal: Manowar (which is more heavy metal), Dream Evil, Dio, first four albums of Pantera (), Sonata Arctica, Symphony X, Iced Earth (some), newer Blind Guardian, Dragonforce, Nightwish, X Japan, later Helloween, etc. I can go on.
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
King Diamond = The Fathers of Traditional Heavy Metal.
Oh and btw, if you think wearing leather and studs was because of Power Metal, you are HORRIBLY mistaken, cause it was started with the punks.

1. Pantera has NEVER been power metal, their early days where glam....
2. I never said it only was cause of the studs and vocals. The guitar techniques, the bass lines, the drumer, the over all speed and direction of a song. That is what I was talking bout with the theory.
3. That was the 2nd breed of power metal, the Blind Guardians, Iced Earths, etc.
This arguement is gonna go no where, I agree to Disagree. It was a pleasure argueing with you, lets do it again sometime.

It wasn't a pleasure arguing with someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. Sorry but when someone says that belts and studs came from power metal, then that REALLY shows that they don't know a thing. Belts and studs came from the punk genre. good ol' copy/paste
from Blabbermouth:
The release date for IRON MAIDEN's much-anticipated new studio album, "The Final Frontier", is now confirmed for Monday, August 16.
The CD features artwork (see below) illustrated by Melvyn Grant and, to mark the occasion, the band have made special arrangements for one new album track "El Dorado" to be made available worldwide as a FREE digital download MP3 with immediate effect via www.ironmaiden.com. The song can also be streamed in the YouTube clip below.
Singer Bruce Dickinson explains, "'El Dorado' is a preview of the forthcoming studio album. As we will be including it in the set of our 'Final Frontier World Tour' (which opens in Dallas on June 9) we thought it would be great to thank all our fans and get them into 'The Final Frontier' mood by giving them this song up front of the tour and album release."
The band reunited with long-time MAIDEN producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley in early 2010 at Compass Point Studios, Nassau to record the album and then moved to The Cave Studios in Malibu, California to finish the recording and do the mixing. Compass Point Studio is very familiar to the band, it was where they recorded the "Piece Of Mind" (1983), "Powerslave" (1984) and "Somewhere In Time" (1986) albums.
Bruce comments: "The studio had the same vibe and it was EXACTLY as it had been in 1983, NOTHING had changed! Even down to the broken shutter in the corner... same carpet... everything... It was really quite spooky. But we felt very relaxed in such a familiar and well-trodden environment and I think this shows in the playing and the atmosphere of the album."
30 years on from their eponymous debut album in April 1980, "The Final Frontier" will be MAIDEN's 15th studio album, making a remarkable average of a new album every two years for 30 years and totaling over 80 million album sales during this period.
"The Final Frontier" track listing (total running time 76:35):
01. Satellite 15....The Final Frontier (8:40)
02. El Dorado (6:49)
03. Mother Of Mercy (5:20)
04. Coming Home (5:52)
05. The Alchemist (4:29)
06. Isle Of Avalon (9:06)
07. Starblind (7:48)
08. The Talisman (9:03)
09. The Man Who Would Be King (8:28)
10. When The Wild Wind Blows (10:59)
"The Final Frontier World Tour" begins in Dallas on June 9 with 25 shows in major cities across the USA and Canada, playing to an expected 350,000 fans or more. Following this the tour will ship over to Europe starting in Dublin on July 30 and playing a few selected major festivals and stadiums , finishing in Valencia, Spain, on August 21 and including a concert in Transylvania.
Says bass player and founder member Steve Harris: "We're hugely excited about this tour. I think the fans will really like the brand new stage production and lights and we will also be debuting one of the new album tracks , 'El Dorado'. Our Texan fans will be the very first people anywhere to hear it live, so it will be interesting to see their reaction and how it goes down with the crowd on the night! Eddie has changed a bit for this tour but is possibly the most outrageous one to date... I can't say too much about him as don't want to spoil the surprise but I guarantee he will scare the hell out of you!"
Been a long time fan of Iron Maiden. They've always delivered(minus the Blaze Bayley era)Although a guitar player,im mostly interested in getting to hear the good ol traditional bass, the way it was meant to be played, thanks to metal god Steve Harris.
Not to mention the new Eddie look is allbadass...gonna have to find that shirt sometime.

"After Saxon and Aerosmith you are PURE EVIL mate!"
Fucking hilarious hahaha Thanks!
When I saw them I think the best songs where "Fear of the Dark", "Blood Brothers", and "Hallowed Be Thy Name". They put on the best show I have ever seen in my life. I was sad that Dream Theater had a short set.

Saw Dream Theatre and Iron Maiden last night at Madison Square Garden...2 words:
FUCKIN' AMAZING
Dream Theatre had a great set list and played like they were new comers to the scene trying to create a fan base by playing their hearts out...and play their hearts out they did. Wow is all I can say about their show.
Iron Maiden, although a set list that was made up primarily of their last 4 albums put on quite a show. The stage set up looked like they borrowed some of the props from ALIENS and had some nice art work behind Nico that changed with every song. Bruce looked like he has been in training for a marathon for the past 2 years. Never stopped running around and jumping all over the place. Was bugging out on his high jumps and airborne splits. Musically, they were MAIDEN...tight and vocally on the money. They have been doin' it now for 30 years and they never sounded better. An amazing experience. More happened but I don't wanna spoil it for those of you lucky mofos who are going.

Right on Mike and I'm freaking jealous as hell. When I caught them last year they played Seventh Son and below primarily focusing on Powerslave as that was their main backround of the night. They are truly amazing live.

Bayley I believe. He was pretty awful, even though I still own those albums with him. The X factor had some redeeming qualities.... some

The first two albums remain great! Di Anno had a real energy even though Dickinson is my fave singer for the band.

I love PD...KILLERS is classic as is the 1st album. As great as Bruce D is it ain't the same hearing him do the songs PD did first.

I saw them once before at Jones Beach with Joe Satriani and King's X.
They were really good that night as well but the big difference was the sound at The Garden. Dream Theatre sounds a hell of alot better indoors than they do outdoors...as do most bands.

very weak
nuthin new...sounds like music from their last 3-4 albums
Very progressive but nothing surprising with that. "Isle of Avalon" is a song I really enjoy listening to. I would have loved seing 2 or 3 less than 5 minutes song but I knew it wouldn't happen unfortunately. Pretty decent though.

I really like this album, so 'Starblind' could have benn scraped but the rest of them are awsome. definatly not a 'Powerslave' or 'Number Of The Beast' (that would be going backwards). but still a decent effect.

I'm surprised you like it. You seem to me a s a person who likes heavier metal and would be let down by this softer Maiden installment.
I think it's hard to deny our roots and forget what we used to love and hear when we were younger/teens. We nearly always come back to our roots. That's why people like me like heavy metal while they mostly listen to extreme metal.

I prefer the metal of the early 80's over the throaty noise out there today.
Black metal suits me perfectly but I don't want to deny my love for some heavy metal bands.

Lay down your soul to the gods rock'n'roll!
I used to wear a Venom T-shirt for years but now it rests in my room. Many great concerts were seen with that shirt on me héhé

Giving away my age a bit I saw Maiden for the first time during the "Peace of Mind" tour & 6 times since. Many don't realize that they changed music in a way other than common thought by doing it with live shows instead of in the studio. It was the introduction of Eddie & the huge outdoor stadiums they played while touring that led to what many do today. The album covers showing different sides of Eddie & the bands feeling at that moment were as important & theme related as the songs on each album. The influence of Maiden reached & influenced much of what many branch's of rock & metal became & is still a basis used by any new band. Not copied & pasted just words from a fan....Great band

The main 2 reasons I started playing bass was Tom Araya of Slayer and Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. They both have unique and different styles from each other but both rock. Steve Harris is the master of making a bass really come out and make an appearance in every song. And each song is awesome! :metalbang:

This last Thursday I saw Paul Di'Anno, he played all of the first Iron Maiden album and some of Killers. Was an incredible show, this tour is the last time he's doing this too.
