Basically any matchup out west, but Suns/Spurs is the top matchup IMO.
This is where Phoenix finds out if the Shaq trade was worth it.

Being an unbiased watcher of game 1. Gotta say its funny when refs completely wihff on Manu when he takes the ball and basically walks across the paint for a layup. Course the Suns couldnt play any defense which is the reason they cant and wont beat the Spurs IMO. So many guys wide open for 3s when all you have to do is cover them.

Ive seen the Celtics lose too many games this year when the other team has a great day shooting the 3.
Celts win the next two.
This Suns/Spurs thing is a complete joke, I remember when hack a shaq was new and fresh, back when Shaq was in his prime and the Trailblazers has Scottie Pippen, now the Spurs are just fouling him every time the Suns have the ball, regardless if Shaq has it or not, in the FIRST half. This is bush leauge, legal or not.
Tmac will never get out of the first round as long as he is scared to take the big shots, he doesnt make his team mates better. Its sad, he is a great player but doesnt translate into great team mate, not Kobe like bad team mate though, Tmac deserves more, he seems like a good guy, but the fact that he cant win when it matters due to some of the reasons I just said combined with the fact that he is always hurt, I just dont know how much of a superstar he really is.

pfft. the celtics suck ass.
doc rivers is holding them back
réÐþÁ†µ
04-29-2008, 09:35 AM
Not sure where to put the blame really.
Doc Rivers
The Defense for not being able to contain one guy for 7 plus minutes
The self implosion of the team
Other than that, this is playoff ball and it seems either this team needs to readjust and reorganize, especially for road playoff games or they will bow out in embrassing fashion right up there with the Pats.
I dont put the blame fully on Doc but when you see one guy torching you like that. You better make some kind of an adjustment.
Max Payne
04-29-2008, 01:44 PM
Really?
Isnt it obvious that this is Dov Rivers fault?
Not that I like Tony Allen, but how can you get 20 minutes a game during the regular season and not see the court in the playoffs?
Doc has never gotten out of the first round, messing too much with the success that they had in the regular season and allowed Ray Allen to continuely get burnt by Joe Johnson down the stretch to seal the deal.
What sucked so bad last night was the Celts had it won in the first quarter and let them back in, and then up by 10 heading into the 4th but he allowed Sam Cassell to keep shooting brick jump shot after shot.
The only positive that could come out of blowing a 2-0 lead to the Hawks after a 66-16 season is that Doc Rivers will finally potentially be fired, which is sad cause you would think that it would be a done deal after that, considering before this year his success as a Celtics head coach was non existant.

Same sad song out in Dallas and Pheonix. Both of those respective trades for Shaq/Kidd did absolutely nothing to help either team. The Mavs still arent mentally tough enough to overcome the odds and the Suns still dont play enough Defense to beat teams like the Spurs.
Only 3 remaining series left in the first round.
Rockets/Jazz
Celts/Hawks
Pistons/76ers
Rockets/Jazz has gone back and forth but I dont think Tmac and company can steal another one out in Salt Lake City to get it to game 7. That series goes 6 IMO. I think the Pistons have regained control of that series and will probably close it out in Philly IMO. Celts should win in 6, but thats the keyword. If they lose that series or it goes 7, that doesnt bode well IMO.

nice little stat to look at for games in Atlanta
Game 3
Boston 23-25
Atlanta 20-27
Game 4
Boston 10-18
Atlanta 29-33
Game 6
Boston 20-25
Atlanta 36-47
totals
Boston 68
Atlanta 107
differance of 39
This is why the Celts are going 7 with the Hawks, look at that horrible offciating, dont tell me to stop blaming the refs cause there is no fucking way that its that lop sided because of the actual play on the courts.
Everyone has said that Boston is 20 points better then the Hawks, what better way to fix that by giving them 20 more FT attempts a game, I mean shit, they got 45 of them tonight, 45 and 80 combined between this and there last home game.
could care less if the celts win now, i wont even bother getting up early on sunday to catch the start of the game, only positive that i can see coming out of this bull is maybe rivers gets fired, but he wont.

More embarassing that your the only remaining series left in the first round that had to go 7.
Maybe its just me, but I guess alot of us in Boston seemed to get caught up in the great regular season that we discounted the notion that once the playoffs roll around and its crunch time for a last shot, none of us really knew how that was going to shake out. At home its been fine because your winning by double digits, but obviously out on the road its been a huge deal.
I still think they advance but its obvious the chemistry is totally different especially home vs road for this team so far in the playoffs.

last shot thing is a myth, its clear to anyonewho watches that KG doesnt want the last shot, so it comes down to Allen and Pierce, and Pierce fouled out with 7 mins left, so Allen should be the logical person to take the shots, and he did, even if he had been missing all night and took a horrible fade away 3 with 15 seconds left down by 2, then couldnt get open for a 3 at the end forcing the one person on the team you dont want taking a 3 not named Perkins.
I could care less how this series pans out, on the flip side of losing, Doc might be fired, if they win, does anyone really think there a big threat any more? I dont, they have to prove it all over again and thats sad after the season they just had.
If I learnt anything from this Celts team, the Bruins against MTL and of corse the Superbowl, is that regular seasons eventually mean shit. No more counting games in the bucket for wins for me.

I hate the Celts, but they can still make the finals. The Hawks are just a REALLY bad matchup for them. The Cavs are a better team than Atlanta, but the Celts match up a bit better with them, so if Boston wins, I think they'll beat the Cavs as well.
Boston v. Detroit will be a very solid series and will most likely go 7 and can go either way. I think the winner of that loses to LA in the finals though.

Refs and LA did everything possible to help SA win the game and they still couldn't.

maybe duncan did get away with some fouls, but in the final seconds of a close game like that the refs are supposed to step it up and watch more closely for those fouls. thats a given. and barry was definately fouled. he and his team are just too classy to admit it.

Celtics are heavy underdogs in this series regardless of regular W-L vs the Lakers in the regular season.
I think there are multiple angles to view this series from. You have the people out there who want to see Kobe complete this season with a ring, moreover get it without Shaq. Meanwhile on the other side, I think you have people who cant stand the Lakers and want to see the Lakers lose in the Finals. They want to see Kobe lose without Shaq to get the benefit of the doubt.
I think you have some people out there who want to see the Celtics win for a couple different reasons. One it would be a feel good story for an organization that really dipped in the 90s for a multitide of reasons. I think you have people out there who want them to win simply because their tired of the Lakers, much like their tired of the Pats in the NFL, Yankees or Red Sox in Baseball, etc.
Then the other angle of course is just the pure anti Boston sentiment shared by a good majority of the nation where even though some of them out there cant stand the Lakers, they want to see the Lakers win because they hate Boston even more. Whether its pure jealously with 3 teams being legit in the sportstown or just the notion that Boston fans and only Boston fans have bandwagon fans and nowhere else does that exist.
For me, I just hope its a good series.

I agree wholeheartedly.
That part of my post was just a drip of sarcasm. Thats just what you'll hear from nonbiased fans or haters/trolls, etc. Its the basis for the anti Boston sentiment.

First of all, the whole Lakers are 0-2 against the Celtics argument is moot because those games were played well before the Gasol trade. Regular season games kinda go out the window in the playoffs, especially the finals. The Lakers have looked dominant (and I hate the Lakers) while the Celtics have looked just good enough to get by. Although the 2-3-2 format hurts LA, they'll go into Boston with a 3-2 lead and will most likely close it out in game 6.
If Garnett was a true big man instead of a jumpshooter, he could exploit the Lakers defense. Because he's a jumpshooter, the Lakers have the option of putting Lamar Odom on him and putting Gasol on Perkins so he can stay out of foul trouble.

I think people underestimated how deep the C's bench can be when they play well.
If guys like Leon Powe can burn you for 21 points. Lakers arent winning this series.
I still think LA can win a couple games. But im more convinced that if Boston continues to play the way its been. They will probably steal one in LA and close it out at home.

Where have you been?
NBA has always had shady officiating. No different than any other sport and it has nothing to do with Boston. The HOME teams get the calls in the playoffs, the refs always slant towards the home team.
Ask a King fan, Trailblazer fan, Spurs fan, etc when the Lakers went on that 3peat if they werent jobbed afew games. Especially the Kings.
It almost as if were to the point in sports where teams only win championships not because their better but because of the refs. Its the only thing you hear following big games.
If the Lakers were as good as everyone out there thinks they are. They will attack the paint, run the lane and get the calls at home. Like the Celtics, they are also a jumpshooting team and being back at home should give them their fair share of calls.
All people were saying during the Hawks series were the C's were gonna choke it away and the Hawks have played the C's the best. They always attacked and kept on attacking, they kept shooting FT's, etc.
If you dont attack, you dont get the calls, especially if your the road team.

It could go 7 games but I dont think these teams matchup well at all. I thought the Lakers played well last night and how they won the game was basically the only way their gonna win the series IMO.
Have a slim lead late in the game and have Kobe hold onto it for them. The question I have is will they be in that position to be able to do it 4 times in this series? Its alot to ask Kobe to win 4 games by himself in this series because Gasol say for a couple offensive rebounds and putbacks, hasnt been much of a factor and neither has Odom.
Relying on Radmonavic (spelling) alone wont be enough IMO. But I can concur, the series could go 7.
réÐþÁ†µ
06-13-2008, 08:14 AM
What to say about Game 4.
Couple things.
1. Lakers blew a huge lead at home in a span of about 6 minutes, they didnt deserve to win the game.
2. I said to anyone that would listen who was an objective viewer that if Ray Allen plays well. The Lakers would have a tough time winning this series and low and behold. Ray Allen has been the best player for the Celtics in the Finals.
3. It was a great comeback.
4. Philly Jackson was actually quite outcoached by Doc Rivers. Who would've thought that was possible. When the C's went small with their best offensive lineup. They had too many shooters for the Lakers to handle. Jackson adjusted with about 2 minutes left but by then it was too late.
Overall, who knows. The Lakers can probably push it to 6. But I think it ends in Boston. The Celtics just have this matchup. The Lakers have the best player in the league, but the Celtics have the best team in the league. In the end, thats what counts.
didnt catch the whole game, but I saw the Lakers were ahead by a lot then I change the channel then change it back later on and the Celts are ahead I was like holy shit

Except the Spurs dont ever win it back to back so that wasnt going to happen.
People were saying the same thing about the Lakers. People refused to respect the C's all season except for ESPN and ESPN only covered them because they were winning.
First it was the C's werent going to gel. Then it was they couldnt beat the good teams in the East. Then they couldnt beat the teams out West. Then they couldnt beat the big 3 Texas teams in a row. Then they werent going to win in the playoffs. Finally, they cant beat the Lakers. Hell even I predicted the Pistons to get out of the East.

so since the spurs couldnt get past this soft laker team, even though they had a grueling 7 game series they should of lose to NO, which they blew one game against the Lakers and got cheated of a chance to send one into OT that some how they would of swept the Celts in the finals even after the Celts beat them twice in the reg season?
Yea, that makes a ton of sense to me.

In all fairness, the C's havent won one in quite awhile. Its not like they've been dominant in the least for the last 15 years or so. They went from worst to first which is always quite a turnaround. Also a rariety that the best team all season actually won the title in the end which sometimes doesnt happen.
In the end. 20 years down the road, when Boston fans look back on this era. It will probably the most dominant time for Boston sports and historically speaking, one of the most dominant eras for a sports town of all time.
6 Titles spanned across 3 franchises so far. If only the Bruins ownership would commit to winning.
Not to brag, but I'll take it.
