Saw's somewhat never ending series, is similiar to what Paramount did with Friday The 13th in the 1980s. But which series are you a bigger fan of?

And also much like the F13 series, the Saw series seems to now be getting worse with each sequel, at least that was apparent to me with the last.

I personally like the F13 series better, at least 1 through 8. It offers more significant value to me than the Saw movies, since I grew up watching Jason hack away at the silly "teens". Jason X was entertaining, but cheesy, Hell was stupid, and FvsJ I liked a lot, but I personally don't consider it part of the regular series.

My thoughts too. Cept I consider FvsJ a regular sequel to both series.

I think Jason X's only saving grace was the holographic Camp Crystal Lake.

Friday the 13th > Saw

People still reference Jason/Friday series today. But 20 years from now, will people still be referencing the Saw series? Good question.

Damn I thought there were other series that had countless sequels, some of which were considerably worse than the others?

Friday the 13th must be the staple junction point for all comparisons.

I've got a biased opinion here cuz I grew up on Jason. But I like Friday the 13th more. I got bored with the torture craze and I haven't watched Saw 4. I will eventually but I saw to much to fast I guess. Like I said biased opinion here, cuz you could say the same thing about the F13 series. I just for some reason never get tired of my favorite slasher going around hacking up teenagers. I even collect the comics. I'm a slasher fan.

I love all Friday the 13th from 1 - 8, some more than others.

I thought Saw was okay, 2 and 3 were buttholes, so I'm gonna go with F13.

I've always said to my friends that Saw was the new Friday the 13th. Due to the new sequels that are released every year.
But definatly Friday. Jason is way better than jigsaw (who lacks the power of resurection) :D

But OVERALL F13 is a better series.

A lot of rose tinted glasses in this thread. Saw's narrative so far (ive only seen 1-3) seemed to tie together a lot better than Friday the 13th's. On that level, Saw certainly. Dunno, probably Saw if only because I just never liked many of the Friday sequels.

F13 for me too, I own a few F13 movies, but i still have yet to buy a SAW film. I like both, but F13 is something I can sit on the couch turn off the lights, eat popcorn and enjoy, SAW I get bored halwaf through because I know whats gonna happen.
speaking of F13 I hope they dont fuck up the movie, if its anything like Halloween I'll be pleased, it wont ever be as good as the original, but it could be good.

Friday the 13th is good, but I've always seen it as one of those movies that's only really as popular as it is because it kinda popped a cherry in terms of what horror was gonna be like afterwards. I think if it had come out in 1991, it wouldn't be nearly as popular, and I certainly don't think it'll be very difficult film to capture again in a remake.
So, as much as I would think the Saw movies (only seen one and two) are kinda superior, since neither of them are really fantastic franchises, and since one can definitely watch the Friday movies over and over since they're just more fun, I'll agree with everyone else here (except Cataclysm, but I think that goes without saying on any subject), and say the Friday movies.

The Saw series has much better continuity then the F13th series, but overall I enjoyed the F13th series more. Of coarse that may be a biased opinion since I as well as many others here grew up with Jason and nothing made today no matter how good it is can replace that feeling you get from all those old horror franchises you grew up with.

Got to say Friday the Thirteenth is a better series. I do love that the Saw movies tie into the last movie before it, though. It's one of those 1 story continuing kind of things, whereas most of the F13 movies are stand alone movies. Still, I've got to go with F13.

I think I'm going to have to agree with pretty much everyone else on here and say Friday the 13th. While I like the continuity of the Saw films and the brutality and the fact that Jigsaw seems almost genius - I find Jason more entertaining. I only really enjoyed the first two Saw films, but I can rewatch most Friday the 13th movies any day of the week.

Apparently your generation doesn't want to see vampire killers anymore, nor vampires either. All they want to see slashers running around in ski masks, hacking up young virgins.

I don't understand how you can compare the two series.

But anyhow, I'll take Friday The 13th over Saw any day of the week. I grew up on watching Friday the 13th films, so they hold a special place in my heart. Jason is the man, period. Plus, Friday parts 3,4, and 6 are some of my favorite horror movies of all time. Saw doesn't even come close to being a favorite. In fact, I wouldn't even go as far as even really considering Saw as horror. To me, it's more of a thriller along the lines of Se7en or 8mm.

Hmmm....I'm gonna go with Friday the 13th, Saw was great in the beginning, but after 2 it sorta went down hill. 4 Just buried that series if you ask me, it was confusing and the ending made you just go "Huh? What?". The first two movies had a logical and unexpected twist, while the other two...not so much. 3 wasn't TOO bad, but 4 was just down right awful.

Hard to say. I grew up on Friday the 13th, so I have a bias there.

But I think the first two Saw movies were superior films to any of the Friday the 13th films.

I like them both for what they bring to the table.

Both series should have ended after the first two films, imo.

SAW is filled with bad acting, bad dialogue, huge plot holes, and sequences that think they are much mmore clever than they really are.

And that's just the first installment!

What a terrible film. And SAW 2 and SAW 3 are even worse!

I haven't seen SAW 4, but based on the previous films I'm assuming Citizen Kane it ain't.

I really like the original Friday the 13th, and a few of the sequels. But I find silly enjoyment out of most of the F13 sequels, whereas the SAW sequels take them so seriously that I can't bear the terrible script and acting and plot holes....etc.

F13 wins hands down.

But the Alien series and the Halloween series blasts both out of the water!

F13 had plot holes too and bad acting.

But the difference is that the F13 movies knew they were low brow and they embraced.

The SAW films think they are so clever and take themselves way too seriously, which makes the bad acting and the poor plotting seem even worse because the movies never achieve their goals.
