Jungfrukällan (1960)

Set in beautiful 14th century Sweden, it is the sombre, powerful fable of peasant parents whose daughter, a young virgin, is brutally raped and murdered by goat herders after her half sister has invoked a pagan curse. By a bizarre twist of fate, the murderers ask for food and shelter from the dead girl's parents, who, discovering the truth about their erstwhile lodgers, exact a chilling revenge

You've never heard of The Virgin Spring before?

It was the inspiration for Last House on the Left (many say LHOTL just ripped it off). I've got it on VHS but have yet to watch it.

:hi: (It's because he did just rip it off.)

The Virgin Spring is an amazing flick. It's a shame that when Ingmar Bergman passed away he didn't get the attention he deserved, especially around these parts. From the movies I've seen of his, he always had some of the most beautiful scenes.

The Virgin Spring is a phenomenal movie. Many argue that it's Bergman's best movie, along with The Seventh Seal. LHOTL DID rip it off. It's pretty much a remake, only you see the actual rapes and killings.
If you're looking for a gory movie, this isn't for you. It's just a great, beautifully shot movie.

P.S. I HATE A.D.D. horror fans who won't watch a movie because it's too old. All of your favorite horror movies were most likely inspired by "old" horror movies. Learn the history of the genre.

Don't worry, here in Sweden he got more than enough attention for his work
