Anyway, after my love for South Korean cinema took off with My Sassy Girl, I pretty much wanted to watch any and every romance-comedy from the country as I could. A few years later (after getting tired of the same old movies), I eventually took a chance and upgraded to some of their series or probably better known as "soap operas" here in the US. Much like their cinema, their shows are filled with quirky characters, comedy, and pretty damn good drama. If you like their movies, then you'll absolutely love their shows. My first taste was with My Lovely Sam-Soon, which still remains as one of my fav. Korean shows.

I've seen a couple handful of their dramas, and only found one bad egg in all of them. Recently I completed a series called Super Rookie, which was a very entertaining underdog story. Filled with comedy, romance, and lots of dramatic elements. The show follows a slacker who decides to apply for a job at South Koreas most successful and powerful business company called LK. After a computer error, and countless weird coincidences, he makes it through all the interview stages and surprisingly gets a job there. Story basically just revolves around him and the drama love-triangle drama between a couple other girls, and an old friend of his, who gets in the way.

Lots more to the story than that, but it pretty much sums it up. As I said before, if you really like Korean cinema, then I'd recommend giving their shows a shot. Super Rookie isn't necessary a good choice for beginners, but it's a show I'd recommend for the seasoned watcher. I'd be happy to recommend some good starter shows if anyone reading is interested. However, unless you know a good place to download or watch this kinda stuff, you'll likely have to purchase them at places like Yesasia.com, which is what I do :ahheh:

Yeah, you'd have to really be into their stuff to want to make that kind of move.

I watch the South Korean show Resurrection, that's pretty awesome. I'll pass on this, Soap Opera's aren't my thing.

Most of the ones I've seen were romance-dramas with comedy here and there. Never heard of Resurrection

I've seen a couple handful of their dramas, and only found one bad egg in all of them.

Which one of those was the bad egg? I've seen a few episodes of Palace and received a DVD sampler of Winter Sonata. So far what I watched was surprisingly good. I can see why they're popular. I should really start watching them again.

Palace is a great series that you can get on Netflix. Plus, the lead chick is pretty hot.

The "bad egg" was just this series that my GF and I couldn't get into at all. I think it's mostly because it was outdated, as we're used to watching shows that are only a few years old. I enjoy watching the recent ones more, because it's interesting to see how some of their technology is way better than ours.

It's called Hotelier and was made in '01. http://imdb.com/title/tt0431528/

It has a lot of good reviews, but after watching a few episodes we still couldn't get into it. The story took too long to go anywhere and we didn't care for any of the characters. Plus it's hard to get into a series that takes itself too seriously.

I wish Netflix would offer more of YAs DVDs, you can only get a select few from them. Wouldn't mind purchasing some of these shows, the only drawback is that they're too expensive. I'll have to check out Super Rookie, sounds like I'll enjoy it as much as I did with the other ones I watched.

Fright, Did you ever check out The Stained Glass from YA. I recently got this from Netflix. Pretty good episodes from what I've seen so far. I've been thinking about purchasing one of these shows, which one would you recommend getting?

Haven't seen Stained Glass, but since you say it's in Netflix, I'll probably check it out. I just got Shoot For the Stars from Netflix today, so I'm gonna give that a check.

Depends on what you're looking for, like if you want more of a comedy/romance or drama/romance. I can tell you now that the show that got me hooked on K-Dramas was My Lovely Sam-Soon. It's the first I watched and still remains as my favorite. It's more of a comedy, but offers pretty good romance and drama.

You can check this link to see all the K-Dramas I have in my collection. It might give you an idea on what to look out for.

By the way, if you're interested, I can give you a good deal on Stairway to Heaven. It's the US DVD set. It's a great romance, but I didn't feel that I liked it enough to keep it in my collection. You can find info and a preview on that here: http://www.yaentertainment.com/catalog/sth.html
