What in the hell are they thinking? I personally loved Donnie Darko, but it just doesn't seem like anything that could be recreated, especially without Richard Kelly returning. Supposedly it's going to be called S. Darko and revolve around Samantha, Donnies little sister.

Pretty interesting they deciding to make a sequel after 8 years. I really didn't think they needed one. I also enjoyed the first one and own the director's cut at home.

Link?

If true, I have a hard believing it will be anything but a DTV.

Donnie Darko Sequel in the Works
Darko 2 will revolve around his sister.
by Chris Tilly, IGN UK
UK, May 9, 2008 - Cult classic Donnie Darko – the film that catapulted Jake Gyllenhaal to fame, re-ignited interest in Tears for Fears and made sinister bunny suits de rigeur for Halloween – is about to get the sequel treatment.

According to Screen Daily, Chris Fischer (Nightstalker, Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders) will direct the sequel, to be called S. Darko.

Richard Kelly, writer-director of the original, will apparently not be involved, although Fisher said in a statement, "I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly's film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality."

Picking up seven years after the original, the plot will follow Donnie's sister Samantha on a road trip to Los Angeles, during which she is plagued by a series of bizarre visions.

Daviegh Chase will reprise her role as Darko the younger, while Ed Westwick (Son of Rambow), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2) and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball) will also star.

S. Darko is set to start shooting on May 18 with a budget of around $10m.

Yeah, pretty nonsense stuff. Film was good (although a little over rated) and I'd hate this new guy trying to explain the whole Darko mythology any more.

I never cared much for the original either but I concur with it being a good watch.

Guess they figured they better go back to the well before its really too late even though given the time period, its still quite a stretch.

If it goes theatrical, it will definitely conjure a hype machine unlike the original which will in turn help it but if the the movie is inferior, it wont matter.

The film was good, I was more confused then an ep of Lost though.

Donnie Darko is a classic, one of my favorite films ever. This sequel sounds like it is going to be a piece of shit though.
