M. Night Shyamalan's next movie looks pretty good. Saw the trailer when I went to see IRON MAN. Hope he redeems himself...his last few efforts were crappy IMO.
Anyone else see the trailer?

But this looks interesting Ill go see it even though the ending is going to be PURE crap..I can almost guarantee the ending is going to be crap. It'll probably end that Mark is dreaming all of this while hes in a padded cell or something fucking horrible.

Still not sure what the hell this is about. From the poster, it reminds me of "Twister", or some other natural disaster movie. My cousin says it's about a deadly plague or something. Mass hysteria. The commercials are also confusing. So, I'm not interested in seeing it. For now anyway.

BooBerry
05-21-2008, 06:59 PM
OK spoilers kinda sorta below!!!

From everything I've heard on it, there's a mass plague indeed, but it's not a disease. It's a spore from certain trees that when people breathe it it makes them crazy. First they get all dazed and blank, then they are urged to commit suicide.

The only thing I'm confused about is what Marky Mark and the kids are running from and he says "They're coming" or something like that. Perhaps the spores affect animals?

It's called marketing & money making. Besides that, it's very doubtful M. Night has anything to do with the way the movie is being advertised.

And since when is keeping every detail of the plot disgusting? That's just nonsense.

I remember reading somewhere that this one actually doesn't have his trademark twist ending. Some reporter was trying to figure it out in some interview and he said there isn't one.
And I think his films have gotten progressively better each time, save for Lady In The Water, which I didn't like.

There's another movie coming out that's similar to this one, only the plot is everyone in the world goes blind all at once, at the same time...wicked concept...forgot the name of the movie.

Blindness... :ahheh: w/ Julianne Moore. And it's not the whole world, just one town that's quarantined.

I'm not a huge fan of MNights....but I will certainly give the man his due on being a great storyteller and a talented director. I just haven't gotten into any of the storylines, because of content solely, since Signs. Loved 6th Sense though...that movie is so much more than a twist ending. Incredibly acted and directed throughout. The Happening looks promising though.

Worth a rental, maybe.

That said, he really needs to look at who he is doing business with. The marketing department coverage of some of his films has a great deal to be desired; this and the Lady in the Water being perfect examples of "WTF are they thinking?" marketing practices.

I don't think Shyamalan has made a major disappointment yet. I know I'm in the minority of people who didn't think Lady in the Water was absolute shit, and just as much (if not worse) of The Village, but I think he does a pretty good job with his movies, and to date, an exceptional job with most of them. 3/5 isn't bad...

Whether or not your seeing them through "your eyes" as you walk or they are floating...I don't remember any trees though, sorry if this confusing but it is on the TV ad and it caught my eye as being creepy

Just got back from seeing this. Was pretty good, but not as amazing as I was hoping. Just seemed like the story wasn't explored enough. And the acting and the dialogue sucked in a lot of parts. People saying things you would never hear people say.

Had some nice death scenes even though they shot a lot out of frame. And I'm expecting some deleted deaths for the DVD.

And it did get a lil' preachy in some parts. We get it, trees are killing people because people suck. You don't need to blatantly say 'maybe it's global warming... nuclear power plants... ect ect."

7/10.

The movie started off pretty strong, in my opinion, with numerous unexplained suicides, but over time the story never really developed much and before you know it, we're hit with some sort of half-assed reasoning and the movie is over.

M. Night has a lot of good ideas, but fails to fully execute and end them properly, with this being the prime example. There's almost no tension in the flick, and the characters seemed fairly underdeveloped. It seemed as though the entire project was a bit rushed.

Either way, I found it interesting and liked the first 30-or-so-minutes. It's just too bad that the rest of the film didn't offer as much as the first part seemed to promise. 6/10

Did anything actually happen in this movie??? I was convinced that I actually blacked out and missed every significant part of this movie. Then I realized that there were no significant parts in this movie! Character development was non-existent save a few poorly written scenes. Did M. Night beg the MPAA for an R rating because I saw nothing to warrant an R... This movie was garbage... avoid unless you are into being disappointed.
