Your thoughts on the supposedly True story of the Strangers (2008)

So the flick is "Suposedly" based on a true story, So anyone believe this or not? In my Opinion, the flick may be based on a true story as this is a small case & not many have heard of it, & doesnt have too much of an outstanding plot, you know like Texas Chainsaw, OR Amityville Horror, But then again this is a movie with a good plot which raises the question, Also the movie is based off the movie Them

I doubt it's based off Them. Home invasion is a broad theme. Them, High Tension, Intenisty, Panic Room, ect. Doesn't mean anyone copied anyone. Every idea since maybe the 1930's has branched off of something done before.

That said, I forget where I read the article, maybe Fango, but the director actually said the movie isn't based on any one incident in particular, but of several crimes he had read about or seen on the news that stuck with him.

To be real about this, in alot of cases when something is "based on true events" all that means is they had to mimic at least 1 aspect of the original story to be "based" on it. Doesn't say "exactly what happened" or "documentary" or anything, just "based". So, as long as they have... for example, the same number of people in the film as in the real event, its "based on it".

yeah its not based on anything particular. I tried looking it up cuz I wanted to see a picture of the actual masks, but it turns out it didn't actually happen.. But then again I dunno if anyone has actual wore a creepy mask while commiting a crime in real life :)

I read a story on this an actually the writer/director did base this
on ONE event

he based it on the Manson Murders that occurred with Sharon Tate
and if you read the story you can see that there is alot of similarities
between the two.

I read it in an interview with Fangoria Magazine.

I know someone up above said this already, but The Strangers is in fact based off the Manson Murders, the Tate one more so. However, I see it more of a Labianca based ovie. two lovers at a home and strangers come in and try to torturethem/scare them.

So, it ctually is "based on tue events".

This movie was fucking awesome haha I give it a 7.5/10 Mainly because of all the bad horror movies coming out of hollywood lately. My theater was fucking awesome tonight. Everyone was jumping at every knock of the door haha it was awesome and there was an 70 something old guy ahead of me laughing through out the entire movie and that made it pretty great too. The directors 70's influences shined through and I loved it :D Stupid kids were talking shit about it right after it got done though. I think the movie is definitely worth at least one watch for anyone who is a little interested in seeing it. I'll be buying the blu ray when it comes out for sure!
