A friend of mine who normally shares my thoughts on horror in general rented this last night and said it was awful. I am so disappointed because I really have been wanting to see it. Normally he and I have the same opinions...but this movie looks really good. Just wanted to get your responses to this movie before I waste my time.

Yes, its a remake. But they're both pretty much the same. Nothing changed really.

From what I hear its a shot-for-shot remake of the original by the same director, Michael Haneke. Which is strange, I don't really see the point. The trailer looked interesting though. I may check it out.

I got it on its way from netflix. I've seen the first one and thought it was ok, kinda crazy. I don't know why I need to see a shot for shot remake but what the hell, Naomi Watts is in it.

Yeah... They'd probably get the same treatment at Casa de WarBeast as well... I would bust the little bastards up and my o'lady would shoot them.

I definitely want to see this! Tim Roth and Michael Pitt are both awesome actors and Naomi is pretty good as well. I wish I would've got this went I went to Blockbuster earlier :/ But I got The Signal so hopefully that'll be just as good.

Heard relatively little about this and checked it out last friday online... I must say, I was pretty impressed, I was glued to the monitor the whole time. Definitely worth the watch.

movie was crap. The 2 lead crazy guys were absolutly great in there roles, and for awhile the movie kept my interest. But the ending is stupid and predictable. Plus something happens towards the end that goes completely into left field. Which was just retarded. And some of the scenes blew my mind, ok I get it lets move on. But no, the camera would just sit there for waaaaaaaay to long during a couple scenes. So is the 2 killers play their parts perfectly. But the movie itself is very very forgettable.

SPOILERS....
.... Ok, when you said "And some of the scenes blew my mind, ok I get it lets move on. But no, the camera would just sit there for waaaaaaaay to long during a couple scenes." I figured you were talking about the part where they shoot the son and leave and the camera just sits there while the parents don't move or anything.
Well, in the original, add another nearly two minutes of that exact scene. That's the only real difference they changed between the two films was the length of time on some scenes. Guess they figured American audiences wouldn't sit through too long of a scene like that.

yeah that was the main one, I don't mind them not moving the camera, but it just went on way to long.
And SPOILERS IN BLACK the part where she shoots one of them, and the other one rewinds the movie to save his buddies life? That was just stupid. And in case your reading this hand haven't seen the movie, yes you read that right. He grabs the remote and rewinds the movie that your watching so his buddy doesn't get shot

I don't know how to do that BLACK TYPE thing so SPOILERS below concerning Chief's comment about the rewind.
...
..
.
It did seem kind of stupid, but the movie wasn't trying to be a movie I don't think. It was basically a play on movies and how films that have similar subject matter always seem to work out with the same formula.
Bad guys die, good guys prevail. I think Funny Games was basically trying to say, no, that's not how it is in real life. Sometimes the good guys don't get a chance to overtake their captors or escape, they're just killed. And to show movies where that always happens is downplaying the violence of real life.

I enjoyed the remake better than the original even though it's the same. But I guess I liked these characters more and for some reason I found it more effective and disturbing this time around. Haneke is definitely a crazy director, the sickest movie of his though for me is Benny's Video which is completely disturbing and depressing.

I believe when I watched an interview of Hanke on the original Funny Games DVD, he pretty much said the same thing your proclaiming Boo.
P.S.
To get the Black Font, just type your message and highlight it. Go to the Colors drag-down between the Sizes drag-down menu and the Smiley drag-down menu at the top and set the color to Black.

To answer your Spoiler Question:
I have another thing
SPOILER IN BLACK
Remember at the end of the film as the two villans are talking on the boat they are talking about two dimensions, two realities, inwhich one is outrageous and one is normal and they kinda sometimes collide or something, well that was one of the dimensions when he rewinds the movie because for every action in FUNNY GAMES world has two consequences One Outrageous and One Realistic.
And also the only reason this is a SHOT-BY-SHOT remake
is because originally the director had planned this as an
American film but no studio would back him up so when
finally they did he had already made the original but still
jumped at the chance to make the film as he intended.

that makes sense. I just didn't like how that was done. And to do black, when your typing a message up there when you shoose the smiley faces, above where you typing. Theres a letter A with coloring under it. Just pick black.

Just be quite Chief. If you don't like the movie fine, but atleast say "I thought the movie was crap" or something to that extent. Don't try to pass off your opinion as fact especially considering that the point of the movie obviously went completely over your head.
Just stick to the basic stalk 'n slash horror flicks, alright?
While you may think the remote scene was stupid and the ending was predictable (which by the way you really need to stop bullshitting) but everything happened for a reason and wasn't being "strange" or "weird" for the sake of being strange. Boo got part of the reason but there was still more to it than that.
The movie was solid, definitely not for everyone though.

the movie definitely does a great job of putting you in the moment after the first gun shot. There is a steady uneasy feeling through the whole intro and 1/2 the film that foreshadows the ending nicely (unlike strangers which tells us the ending in the first 2 minutes). I felt the child's performance in most scenes, especially the first scene that included the two smart asses was outstanding. His fear was real.
The rewind thing was a bit unnecessary, most a big 'fu' to everyone who wants movies to have that happy/revenge type moments. After the 4th wall was broken i was very into it.
Ending was perfect.

I FINALLY saw this movie tonight and WOW! I didn't think I was going to like it as much as I did! Michael Pitt is a great indie actor that deserves time in the spotlight seriously. The ending made me laugh so fucking hard I was in tears man. Definitely a big thumbs up from me

I saw both the original and the remake. They are nearly identical but I liked the original better because non of the actors were familiar to me, it just seemed so much more real and dark when you see two people you don't know getting tormented IMO. The remake was pretty good but I would have to choose the original over the remake. 7/10

Hm, theres positive and negative reviews about every movie so i dont really go by what other people say, i try not to anyway. when you hear someone say how awesome a movie is you can help but to be pumped for it, but then chances are you expected way more than you got.
But i rented this movie from netflix, i cant wait to check it out. The previews looked great.

I checked this movie out last night and I liked it. The scenes were very effective and everything was done for a reason to make a point like someone stated above. The msg of this movie might of gone over a few peoples heads, but if you think about it...they did it perfectly. Id give it 7/10.
Worth a watch if your into this kinda thing, otherwise Id stay away because you'll just hate it.
