Captain America Casting Buzz
Marvel reportedly eyeing A-list stars.
by Stax
June 13, 2008 - Marvel Studios is reportedly considering two A-list stars to play the title role in The First Avenger: Captain America, which is slated for release May 6, 2011.
According to Latino Review, Marvel wants either Leonardo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt to play Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America. The site stresses, though, that neither actor has been approached yet. They are simply on the studio's shortlist right now. Latino Review adds that Marvel is also mulling Pitt to play Thor.
DiCaprio, 33, is busy with a slew of other projects in the works (namely Atari and Fleming) so perhaps he'll be too busy to don the red, white and blue for Marvel.
The 44 year-old Pitt, like fellow rumored contender Matthew McConaughey, may be too long in the tooth now to play young recruit-turned-super soldier Steve Rogers.

I'm with Chief. Pitt has the build and the hair to pull off a modern-era Captain America.
But, it really looks like this is the origin story. As much as I hate to say it, we probably need either college-aged talent, or someone under thirty with a little more Hollywood experience and a face that can pass for young with enough makeup.

They really just need to stop recycling old actors and get some new blood.

Marvel has made some great casting choices so far, so I trust they'll make a great one here too. Course new blood might be more willing to stick around for more sequals where as hollywood veterans may be a harder catch for that. Now Leo as Bucky? I could kinda see that I guess. Althoug I'm not a fan of the guy.

Captain America is in the same sort of icon realm as Superman. They need to go a similar route and recruit someone relatively unknown so as to avoid any famous-guy-in-a-suit baggage.

No. No Leo as Bucky.
That would be like casting a thirty year old actor as Robin.
No.
He could possibly do an older Winter Soldier alright, but not Bucky Barnes. And now I have to wonder if we might ever see Jack Monroe on the big screen. They could cast Louis Anderson as Cap and I'd at least rent it for that scene.

Chris Pine would be a good Capt. America, but we'll see how he pulls of Capt.Kirk first.
DiCaprio is too much of a bitch to pull off someone like this.

Well, in order for this movie to really be as good as it could be, it needs to be back story-ish like the Hulk was. What I mean is, it needs to take place in present day, with Cap. being frozen since WWII and being thawed out, with the super soldier serum story being told through flash backs. I've always seen Cap. as a mid thirties-early 40s hero...not someone the age of Peter Parker.

I've always seen Cap. as a mid thirties-early 40s hero...not someone the age of Peter Parker.Think that's older than they're likely to go, esp. if they continue the apparent lean towards the Ultimates version (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternate_versions_of_Captain_America#Ultimate_Cap tain_America) of things as established by the inclusion of the Sam Jackson-inspired incarnation of Nick Fury.
In the Ultimate universe, Steve Rogers is a frail volunteer who undergoes months of steroid treatment, surgery, and the Super-Soldier formula to become Captain America. Bucky is a childhood friend who follows him on his missions as a photographer rather than as a costumed sidekick. Rogers' last mission as Captain America sends him to a Nazi stronghold on the coast of Iceland to stop a prototype hydrogen bomb created using alien technology. He causes the rocket carrying the bomb to explode and falls into the freezing Arctic Ocean. Rogers falls into a state of suspended animation until Tony Stark's deep sea exploration team pulls him out of the water 57 years later. Bucky survives the war, and, thinking that Rogers had been killed in action, marries Rogers' fiancée Gail.A believable WWII volunteer is, in all likelihood going to skew much younger than late 30s early 40s.

Hmm what gets me thinking is that I read the other day that there's an alternate ending to The Hulk were Captain America saves Bruces life by intervening before he commits suicide and its going to be released on the Blu Ray as an alternate ending. SO they must already know whos going to play him and stuff, or maybe they're going to shoot it specially for the BD release. Anyone know? I thought they already filmed it and couldnt put it in the original ending because it was to "dark" for kids to see.

If Leo had it his way he'd play bucky to Al Gore's Cap.

wasnt an ending, was an early scene in the film actually. after Banner finds out there is no cure he goes to Alaska to commit suicide(ala Frankenstein's monster) but comes accross cap.
