I know this has been out for a damn long time, but I finally got around to reading it... jammed through 105 issues of cross-overs and such (thanks to demonoid), and thought it was a timely compelling read. Anybody else read this?

One of my favorite moments was when a reporter was asking Solo why he was going against the registratation act, he replied "If you make a law every time something blows up, then the guys with the bombs win..." ... nicely put.

I want to read comics so badly, but the nearest comic book shop that sells stuff other than manga is about 50 miles away. I get all my comics knowledge from the internet... This saddens me...

if you can find the right torrent site, like demonoid.com, you can download whatever comic series you want.

Good story, even though Marvel decided to retcon the continuity with spider-man's brand new day. But I enjoyed all of Civil War except I really miss the Captain.:(

Cap died in #25. Brubaker had apparently been working on the death of Cap since he started the new series with #1. It wasn't such much of a Civil War story as it was part of what the author wanted to do: create a year without a Captain America.

At this point, however, Steve Rogers mkII and possibly Jack Monroe are coming back from the grave. Bucky Barnes is alive and well as the new Cap after spending quite a lot of time not being alive and well.

I liked the Civil War. It was timely in a lot of ways, but they did a great job of not playing off of the usual partisan lines. The "old guard" who didn't know what YouTube also represented the liberal way of thinking. The hipsters were in support of big government. That kind of writing really helped keep it readable.

I have almost a full longbox of Civil Wars comics. The real bonus to me is that it revived The Awesome Slapstick's career. See Avengers: The Initiative, #1-12.

Didn't S.H.I.E.L.D. call in Winter Soldier to take up the Capn' mantle?

Cap wanted Bucky to be the next Cap, and Winter Soldier is Bucky.

Spiderman was my favorite character in the Civil War storyline. I loved his back in black story after it all ended. He was such a badass.

I got this badass T Shirt of Spider-Man in his Iron Man costume crouched on Cap's shield. Costume was short lived but I thought it kicked some ass during its run.

Its all good, Just saying Civil War was one of Marvel's better story archs, unlike this piece of shit secret invasion they got goin on now.

The art is going downhill, plus there are dopplegangers, and they're reaching even further into the B C and D list than in Civil War.

It's pretty much a swirl of faux-waterpaint earthtones that may or may not be evil aliens from outer space.

"Libra," anyone?

That's why I avoid most DC as well. My monthly DC list looks like:

Raven (for my wife)
Nightwing
Batman
Batman Confidential (for those awesome moments such as "BUNNY!")

Shadowpact is over, so there's no reason to read anything else.

Yeah DC has Final Crisis goin on and Marvel has Secret Invasion. Out of the two DC is killing off popular, and semi popular characters (bad ass). Marvel is trying to explain why some characters were acting weird in Civil War and copping out on the story line they establised. "OH NO! He was really a Skrull. Thats why he was being an asshole." LAME!

Not condoning DC for destroying the multiverse, bringing it back just so they can have their "FINAL CRISIS", but still I'm checking this out instead of Secret Invasion.

The hype says that Marvel has been planning all of their stunts years in advance. I guess there have been clues to the Secret Invasion since before Civil War.

Brand New Day was apparently in the making for years. So was Cap's eventual death.

I believe them when they say that at least some of it has been planned for a long time. I am also sure that even Uwe Boll plans his movies far in advance as well. I won't say that the time invested made it any better, but I don't think it's an ass-covering maneuver. I think it's a stunt to sell graphic novels.

Honestly, I'm tired of seeing both universes get retconned every 6-9 months.

On the plus side, Newuniversal is being published again. I have a funny story about that title, probably for another time.

Honestly, I'm tired of seeing both universes get retconned every 6-9 months. Indeed. Weak sauce.

Better product will increse more sales, long-term, than going for the quick buck with mega-crossovers that demand, not only dipping across titles, but reading NEW ltd. series that exist for the duration of the disaster du jour.

(and don't get me started on weekly titles).

That's pretty much what made me give up buying comics back in the 90's... I'd finish one multi-title crossover and there wouldn't be even a single stand-alone issue released before they went straight into another huge multi-title crossover... I finally just threw my hands up and said "fuck it".

Seriously guys. Newuniversal. One TPB and two issues will get you in early enough to enjoy it.
