While I was at a recent sci-fi con and drinking much beer, I brought up the topic shitty old cartoons that were brought back as cool comic-books (ei. Space Ghost), and a dude there turned me on to a ThunderCats mini series, and I checked it out...

It was pretty damn nifty... far more serious (and satisfying) than the old cartoon... Lion-o trapped for 5 years, leaving Mumm-ra to take over the planet, Panthra enslaved and working in the mines, Cheetara chained up and gang-raped by mutants, WilyKat and WilyKit sex-slaves of Mumm-ra... Lion-o, vengeful as hell.. FUCK YEAH!!!

Granted, the actual acts of rape and stuff weren't really shown, just hinted at, but the inuendo made it for some righteous reading... one hell of a lot more grown up than the cartoon ever was...

When I read the title of the thread I thought the comics wouldn't be that great, but damn! Seems good.

very sweet, how old are these? I've always like the idea of a more adult thundercats. I like the idea of a more badass Lion-O than the "be cool stay in school" version.

The storyline starts out in Reclaiming Thundera, published in 2003, but doesn't reeeaaallly start getting to the righteous stuff until you hit The Return miniseries, published in 2004.

Don't get me wrong, there is some definate cheese going on here in these comics, but it is far-and-away more mature and enjoyable than the cartoon.
