Without a doubt, the best Batman story ever written. This and Watchmen changed the comics world forever, leaving behind the innocence and TDKR destroyed the forced relationship between two certain heroes. TDKR kicked off the huge run for Batman, which was followed by Year One, The Killing Joke, A Death in the Family, and Batman. TDKR may be the reason why the original film series was started, because interest in the character was starting to drop. Batman was even being considered to be killed off, but Frank Miller knew what to do. This book jump started Batman into the mainstream once more. People like to give Miller a tough time because of what he's done lately, but back in his day, there was no better comic writer.
This was the first Batman GN I ever read and it was a great start. A must read for any Bat fan.

Totally agree... the sequel, DK2... not so much.

The first time I read "DK2", I liked it, but not as much as the first. I re-read it maybe 2 months ago and I really didn't care for it that time. Bad art, too colorful, and too many heroes involved.

Agreed, and I also found it a bit too goofy... it was like Miller tried to capture the quirkiness of the orginal and way over-shot the mark.

The only part I enjoyed the second time was the total beat down on you know you. "Get out of my cave" was probably the best part out of the whole book.
It's been years since I've picked up a comic book. The exception being...this. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I've got this cover:

Yeah, that was a choice ass-kicking.

Thinking about The Dark Knight, the movie passed TDKR in what I thought was the best Batman/Joker relationship in a story. "Stop...stop laughing," was a great moment, but I think TDK passed it by being the first movie to get the two characters right and be two sides of the same coin.

I was trying to find this the other day, no idea where I put it, might have lent it out and forgot about it. The Dark Knight strikes again was too silly. I still need to read Miller's year one.

Borders carries it, they actually have a lot of GN's in stock at the one by me, they have The Killing Joke, The Dark Knight Returns, most of the Hellboy GN's, not as good of a selection as a local comic shop, but it should do well enough to get the major ones.
