Ron DeCaro's latest movie The Gateway Meat is a disturbing and sadistic film, that strays far from the normal conventions of the horror genre. It is about a group of Satanists, living in a quaint, coastal fishing town. As the film progresses we get to know the character played by DeCaro himself, Markus. The film is mainly about how Markus struggles as he tries to deal with the great expectations that are placed on him after his fathers death. Markus' father, who was a Satanist, was trying to open up a portal into hell. Now that he is gone, Markus must take the reigns, and gain the power that his father wanted. With the help of his family and a couple of friends, Markus murders his way to power, as his young, preschool aged daughter watches.

The movie isn't available online, not that I've seen anyways. Only a limited edition (limited to 1000) DVD is available through the production company.

If you choose to buy it, just so you know it is a legitimate DVD and not a DVD-R and can be signed/personalized upon request.
---------------------------------------------------
Well since the movie is being mentioned in the latest issue of Rue Morgue, figured I'd make a post on it.
Essentially a one man project. Written, directed, edited, scored, produced by Ron DeCaro (an extremely nice guy, by the way). The movie often takes on a surreal, psychedelic quality in terms of both visuals and sound creating an assault on the senses. There are also quite a bit nasty moments in it too, such as the shots of a person getting stabbed in the face, dismemberment, a woman having a chunk of her back removed exposing the spine, etc. While there is a story here involving the sick satanic family and all their fellow sicko friends killing and torturing who ever they come across.
Often times the story is a little disjointed often not having a any real transition between scenes that might leave you scratching your head trying to figure out whats going on. While it doesn't make it a bad movie and isn't any where near as bad as SVD which appeard to be nothing more than a series of vomit and gore scenes strung together. I still would have like to have seen the story fleshed out a little more, and a little more coherent at times. Then the running time only being 70 minutes, are the only negative things I have to say about the movie.
Plus it has one of my all time favorite death scenes, the Columbian Necktie!
http://horrorsociety.com/uploads/joenecktie1copycopy.jpg
(If you don't know what a Columbian Necktie is, that is when a persons throat is slit then their tongue is pulled out through the slit.)
I am still yet to see a Columbian Necktie being performed, it sounds really cool!
Will check that out now->

I have one, when is your next movie going to be done? :D
Just kidding. I know you put alot into TGM and it has caused some personal problems but I still stand by what I said before Ron that you should be proud of yourself for creating a unique and sick movie.
I do have a serious question though. Have you seen an increase in purchases, interest or views on your web sites since the Rue Morgue article came out?

I'm a real retard when it comes to new movies.
First I hear their names for a long time, and then I start hearing what people think, and finally I get my thumb out of my ass and actually start reading about them.
I think it was the title of Philosophy Of A Knife that kept me away. The Gateway Meat I confused with a totally different movie and never bothered.
And yeah, Philosophy looks like it could be one of the most amazing movies ever. Seriously.

I think the fact that there's so many shitty mainstream movies coming out has alot to do with it. I think it was around Hostel that I stopped watching new ones. Now I just watch the ones that sound really good, or look really good in trailers, which is few.
Cataclysm
06-23-2008, 12:49 PM
I agree about Hostel, with the plot that it had I was expecting to see something like The Gateway Meat, just nasty. Instead we got a crappy movie that didn't even know what it wanted to be.
I would agree with that statement about only what looks good, but curiosity gets the best of me and I often think I have to watch every movie in existence.

I'm really glad people are responding to the film. I put blood, sweat, and tears into it for sure. To answer your question about upcoming projects. I'm working on 3 seperate projects right now. The first is a documentary tenatively titled "Inside the Underground" I've started shooting segments for this. The first shoot was with The Dillinger Escape Plan @ The Middle East in Cambridge, MA. We are also going to do a segment about Fred Vogel and ToeTag Pictures, Brian Paulin and Morbid vision films, Ftbomp, The Gore-Met, and we are still looking for bands and artist to piece this thing together. The second is a horror film entitled "Well of the Watcher" it will be our attempt to make monsters scary again. The script is in the works. This is cooking on the backburner as the Gateway Meat just came out and I've been trying to spent abit of time to promote it. The third is another brutal horror film I wrote a few years back called "The Love Test" I may or may not bring this project to the forefront as it would be easiest for me to self-fund. It's a brutal torture film that explores the very meaning of love. It's got's some brutal gore sequences as well as more than a few twist and turns.

"It will be our attempt to make monsters scary again" was one of the best things I've heard in a long time. People seem to forget how awesome monsters were. The fact that a gore-hound like yourself is making it is just great. Looking forward to that like hell.
Buuut, first I gotta check out Gateway Meat, which I (hopefully) order this week.

I had no idea you had that many people working on the documentary, I saw the DEP pic on the ftomp site. I'm personally looking foward especially now that I know so many great people are contributing to it. Have you thought about or tried getting Ion Dissonance for it?
Considering how fucked up The Gateway Meat was, I can't imagen how nasty 'The Love Test' will get when torture is going to one of the main points to the film. Also looking forward to what you have in mind for a monster flick, probably won't be able to sleep with lights off for long time after it comes out. :D

I got so happy when he mentioned the monster movie, that I totally forgot to comment about the documentary.
It sounds great, especially with Fred Vogel and Brian Paulin. I haven't really "gotten into" Brian, but Bone Sickness is one hell of a movie, so it would be very interesting to see this. Since I'm a huge Toetag fan, I'm very stoked for the Vogel segment too, of course.
Can't wait till I know how much I get paid this month, so that I can see if I have afford to order Gateway Meat.
Btw guys, the site said something about it costing $30, and something-something-shipping. Was it that the shipping is jammed in the price?

06-24-2008, 08:10 AM
Well between paypal fees, bubble mailers, gas to go to the post, and postage It cost me about $10 to ship overseas. It's a little better to ship in the US but not that much. We are still $5000 in the hole also :( So that is the reason for the price tag on it. In order for us to keep doing what we doing what we do we need to get out of the red. It's an obtainable goal it will just take time and work.
Cataclysm
06-24-2008, 12:54 PM
In all honesty I found the price to be very fair, it could be worse you could be like Lucifer expecting the fans to pay $50 for a signed DVD-R. When we pay $30 and get a limited edition DVD that is signed by everyone or close to everyone involved.
Metapher
06-24-2008, 12:56 PM
$30 is nothing, I was surprised by the low price.
The dollar being so low makes it cost about as much as a new release does in Sweden WITHOUT shipping. So yeah, $30 is sweet as hell. Buying it tonight!

What kills me as an artist is trying to build the networks. I don't post on forums about my work (except for at TTP) unless someone else starts the thread because people attack you and call you a spammer and can be just plain rude. I get the fact that ALOT of people are producing ALOT of really bad horror movies. Sometimes though you find those of us who take what we do very seriously.

I have alot of friends at TTP forum. They are die hard supporters of the underground movement and do their part to spread the word about underground horror.
It's nice to find a thread where people are enjoying the film and jump into those because it's much easier to talk to people once someone else has posted about it. Either way I like that this board has an underground section so I'll be here frequently now. There are some good people here I can tell already.

I intentionally left the viewer out of the narative. It's more of a view of how these people live and the torments they suffer on their way to finding hell. Some people are turned off by the approach but I'm glad you enjoyed it otherwise.

I think a lot of us are pretty mellow for the most part; just our imaginations are pretty disturbing. :D I'm a pretty mellow guy myself and easy going guy, but my interests should come with a parental advisory sticker for the most part. :D Hey, you're doing what you love to do and that's what matters.
By the way, when do you anticipate Yard Sale to hit DVD?
bedlam23
11-11-2008, 09:04 AM
Yard Sale is in it's very early stages. I've got a 15 page outline that I created off of the 5 page short story it is based off of. I've written 25 pages of the screen play Act one basicly. We did a make up test last night and are moving forward as quickly as things will permit. I can't even begin to give an estimation of a DVD date at this time. I will however leave you with this small chunk of script.
With a 3 lb. Sledge hammer Shorty begins to recite the "this little piggy went to" song while smashing Donny's toes with the hammer.
SHORTY (CONT'D)
This little piggy went to market...
The hammer come down onto Donny’s big toe.
DONNY
Ahhhhh. What the fuck!
SHORTY
This little piggy stayed home.
Crunch! Screams.
SHORTY (CONT'D)
This little piggy had roast beef!
Splat!
DONNY
AHHHHHHHHH!!!
SHORTY
This little piggy none!
Squish!
SHORTY (CONT'D)
And this little piggy went wee, wee, wee, wee, wee all the way home!
SLAM!
April soon wakes and adds the cacophony with her own screams.
APRIL
Donny what's wrong ? What's happening? I can't see. Donny?
Donny is sobbing and pleads for his life.
DONNY
Please big guy I'll give you what ever you want.
Shorty laughs hysterically.
SHORTY
Since what I want is for you to die, you'll give me exactly what I want.
Now with increasing hysterics.
DONNY
It's all your fault April. I hate Yard Sales. Please don't kill me keep the girl I won't tell I swear!
APRIL
Shut up Donny.
DONNY (CRYING)
It’s all your fault. I don’t wanna die.
SHORTY
I don't normally have an audience for these things but tonight is special. My sister is here and you're all here to enjoy this too.
Shorty points to a cage on the floor. A scraggly looking thing lurks inside looking restless and bored.
SHORTY (CONT'D)
I want you to be comfortable as you watch me work on my piece.
Donny continues to cry and plead as Shorty picks up a large pair of bolt cutters and holds them up to Donny's face. CLIP! CLIP!
SHORTY (CONT'D)
This will only hurt for a second OK?
Shorty moves over to the backside of Donny and places the cutters against his lower back. SNIP!
SHORTY (CONT'D)
That’s one
SNIP!
SHORTY (CONT'D)
That’s two. There no pain.
Donny goes into shock from having his spinal column cut in two spots.
SHORTY (CONT'D)
You feel better? There I told you. Relax this part is going to feel a little weird big guy.
He takes up a utility knife and cuts into the two incisions he already made. Connect the dots. He then pulls out a piece of Donny's spine. Shorty thrust a fishing gaff into the hold and pulls out a glistening pile of guts that hang from the hole. Donny passes out.
FADE TO BLACK.
Donny is awakened by a smelling salt.
SHORTY (CONT'D)
Wouldn't want you to miss the show now. Would we?
Shorty waves the stick under his nose. Donny cries helplessly. The camcorders are running. He turns the volume knob of the radio up to high. Grinding Death metal fills April’s head. Shorty begins screaming at her but every time the camera cuts to her perspective all you hear is the music blaring in her ears and the sound of her heart beating faster and faster. As the killer's rant intensifies he holds up the other end of the I.V. tube which is filled with blood and stopped by a release valve. He unclamps the tube and begins spraying her down, painting her like a Jackson Pollack painting. Blood acts like paint as it splashes onto the canvas and her naked pale skin. It's beautiful and Shorty seems pleased with his work. Eventually she runs out of paint. Donny watches on in horror as his young play thing is drained like a pig. He is helpless with guts coming out his back. April’s head falls as she succumbs to blood loss.
SHORTY (CONT'D)
What do you think big guy? Do you like it? She bled real good for me. You should be proud of her because she'll always be the star of this film. Look at her isn't she beautiful? Now all I have to do is cut her up and fuck the shit out of her!
