I'm looking for some good uber-violent novels based on the zombie genre... I read Cell, because I heard it was a zombie book, but it turned out it wasn't. Suffice to say, I was a bit disappointed.
Can anyone suggest some good quality zombie novels? The more graphic the depictions of carnage, the happier I'll be.

I was gonna suggest Cell because that's the closest thing to zombies i've ever read, but oh well. I'm curious about this as well.

World War Z by Max Brooks is an amazing zombie book. You could also try Monster Island by David Wellington, Blood Crazy by Simon Clark, Dead City by Joe McKinney, the "Autumn" series by David Moody, also try the Resident Evil books by S.D. Perry.
That should keep you reading. If I could only suggest three I would suggest
The Rising by Brian Keene
City of the Dead by Brian Keene
World War Z by Max Brooks.

yeah I agree with Snuggle World War Z is THE BEST zombie book I have ever read. Its one of my favorite reads of all time. Its short stories that are interviews with different people. Now not everyone of them are violent, cuz some of them are talking to politicians asking why the shit was aloud to hit the fan and what not. But theres some really great stuf in there.
Theres an interview with a guy in a wheelchair and how he delt with it, theres an old blind samurai (one of my favorite interviews), interviews with different soldiers about different battles with the undead. Some with scientists. Pretty much it covers every aspect of it. Its the greatest zombie read ever. And The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks as well. Its great cuz it goes over every possibly scenario. The guys a genius.

Check out "The Walking Dead" series by Robert Kirkman...friggin AWESOME. Great story telling and gory as shit, but it's in black and white which to me just makes it even better. It's like reading and watching a new chapter of "Night of the Living Dead". You can get the softbacks at comic stores for like 10 bucks, they have six issues per book and the series is ongoing....I think you'll dig it man. There is some FUCKED up shit in these books.

Ah World War Z is a MUST read, I LOVED the book, it seems so real when you read it, like if the shit hit the fan and it did happen that it would happen like it did in the book.
I also agree with the S.D. Perry Resident Evil books, but the movie books are good too.
I cant relaly think of a book or series that hasnt been said already though, so i also would liek to know about more zombie books

Twilight of the Dead - Romero like, until the end.
Autumn books. Not really gory but really good.
Brian Keene's are good, not traditional zombies though.
Deadlands was decent.
Dead City, so far so good, Stopped reading because I got too busy.
I still have 5 or 6 zombie books waiting to be read.

I just read about 5 pages and got that distinct feeling that I reading a book from of series out of turn... I was just hopping on here to find out if I was... looks like I was right.
It really pisses me off to no end when this happens... Why in the FUCK do some publishers feel the need neglect to put it ANYWHERE on the book that it's a sequel or a series? I really don't see the logic behind it!!!
Now, since I refuse to read a series out of order, this book gets to go sit on a shelf till I get around to going to the bookstore, which could be a couple of weeks.
FUCK! :cussing:

FUCK! :cussing:Yeah I fucking hate that. Atleast you will have the sequel already as the first book has a cliff hanger ending. I didn't even know there was a fucking sequel for a good week. After reading it I threw the book into a wall. A week later I discovered a sequel and picked it up. It should say on the fucking book if it is a planned series or not, especially on the SECOND book in the duology. :dsp:

I don't know how I'd feel about a zombie book. I can see a graphic novel, but i don't know about a book. Don't get me wrong, I love to read. But still.

im reading 2 series now one is called reign of the dead by len barnhart it kinda reminds me of the walking dead comics. and a series called the morningstar strain. there are both fast and slow zombies.(not alot of people into those fast ones) permuted press puts out quite a few zombie books. (www.permutedpress.com) there is also the skipp and spector books out, filled with short stories. book of the dead and still dead: book of the dead 2. also i know people have mentioned world war z here but you also might want to check out its audio book. there are alot of familiar voices on there that are definitely worth hearing. alan alda, carl & rob reiner, jurgen prochnow, mark hamill, henry rollins, john turturro all notables on the audio book but all performances are really stellar.

I would like to second the Audio Book of World War Z. I read it then listened to it and it was absolutely amazing. I don't know which version I like more though.
:hmmm:
Also Gatsu18 go check out The Rising by Brian Keene. If you like reading I don't see how you won't like any zombie books. Can't hurt to try one.

oh and beast i know you have another thread about lansdale but he also does a zombie story. its in the skipp and spector book (the first one). its one of i think lansdales best and one of the better ones in the book. set as a western has zombies, disneyland, and gratutious sex. theres also a comic to it but good short read.

Okay, so I picked up the The Rising yesterday, but I'm in the middle of another book, This Rage of Echoes by Simon Clark, so it's gonna have to wait.
This Rage is a cool concept but Clark's style is bit too flippant for my taste... it's a shame that when I start a book, I absolutely have to finish it... it's one of my eccentricities... otherwise, I'd be diving into zombie mayhem right now... ah well.

Brian Keene's Dead Sea has traditional zombies whilst The Rising and City of the Dead doesn't although all 3 are amazing books and some of the best I've read. They even convinced me to buy some of his other horror, non-zombie books.
The Morningstar Strain first book was also pretty darn good and a sequal has just been released.
The Resident Evil books are not too bad, quite thin compared with some and not the best of books but nothing wrong with them.
