[Cataclysm]

Rue Morgue put out a list of what they considered to be some of the sickest/goriest movies. Unfortunately the article that was posted on the forum giving their reasoning behind their choices, has since been eaten by zombies so I can't post the link but here is the list they composited.

Couldn't tell you but from what I've gathered, I believe Squirmfest is mostly just shit eating while the Terrible Meal movies (there are two of the) features a variety of disgusting things being eaten by the women. I could be wrong though.

My question is, why the fuck is Braindead #1? I'm a huge fan of the film but I didn't think it was sick at all, I though it was over the top an hilarious, while movies Irreversible, Flowers of Flesh, Faces of Death I found much more sick. I own a handful of the movies listed but haven't watched them yet, Cannibal Holocaust, August Underground's MORDUM, and Blood Feast 2 just to name a few. OK list I guess but they fucked up on placement on a few of those films.

I'd shift the order of these (unless they're in no particular order). I think "Inside" is far harder to watch than "Irreversible" (though both are good and damn, those French are fucked up, aren't they?) Just for example. And what's so sick about "Microwave Massacre"?

I think Irreversible has two of the sickest scenes ever to be captured of film. the fire extinguisher is just brutal and the fact that they showed so much of it was unreal. Also the rape scene is very tense and seems like it lasts forever. Inside was good don't get me wrong, but other than the last scene in the staircase the rest of the deaths in the film didn't hit me as hard and the mentioned earlier.

I agree...cgi you can usually pick out, but in that low reddish light, it was seamless. VERY effective. To the point I was wondering how the hell the actor took those shots for a few seconds! Then the FX appreciating part of my brain kicked in. Rates as one of the relatively few scenes in film that have fooled me at first like that.

I've started on that list; so far I've seen:

1. Irreversable (btw, in the DVD extras, one of the music videos is supposedly the victim's viewpoint...and did everybody notice watching that extinguisher scene a second time that he got THE WRONG GUY??)

2. Entrails of a Beautiful Woman (Low-quality Japanese garbage with one really gory scene, which is used in the dvd menu screen; close second is chestburster scene)

3. From Beyond (great 80's stuff; tasted like Fright Night with The Thing-ish effects. Also, latest DVD release added MPAA cut scenes)

4. Imprint [from Showtime's "Masters of Horror" series on DVD] Very creepy; Miike goes over the line again. And again. And again. And again in the credits. You think the climax of creepiness is hit and then he gets you again.

5. Dumplings [one of three short-forms on the "Three...Extremes" DVD] Oh wow. A comment on society? Who knows...vanity will always get you in the end inmorality tales, you know.

Fuckin list!!! Thanx for it, there's a shitload I haven't seen! And the list-makers didn't really leave many stones unturned. I will use the list as a "watch guide" as I have only just gotten back into my beloved scene from a two-year hiatus- and don't have much time or money to rent shitters lookin' for the red stuff.
Also, yer list brought up fond memories of my friend and I's old fanzine days, when all we did for 3 years was build our gore collections, put out the 'zine, get free shit, meet celebs, and :smoking4:.
Hence, I have seen 184 of the movies on the list. :metalbang:

If I counted right, I think I've seen roughly 173 of the 278. Haven't seen the Zombie Bloodbath flicks because I heard they were terrible, and only have Lost Paradise + one other Harikari flick. Once you've seen one chick writhe around on the floor forever after cutting open her stomach - you've seen them all.

Yes I know this thread is a bit old. This list is sort of screwed up. Rambo 4? From Dusk Till Dawn? Sleepy Hollow? Funny Games? Really? What in the name of all that's horror makes these films disturbing?
I have only seen about 70 films on this list, but some aren't sick or disturbing. They are just stupid!
Take Pig for example. WTF is sick about this movie?
Cannibal Holocaust? There were only two things I found disturbing with this, 1 that I took time from my life to watch it and 2 the actual killing of real animals. Sorry, try and rip me up for this one but that's flat out f'd up!
What about Gutterballs? I have looked at this list a few times and can't find it. That's a hell of a lot more deserving the Sleepy Hollow.
If you just want to add or really disgusting movies then where are the Filthy McNasty movies?
This is a good list, I look forward to seeing how many I would add to my collection. But, the list needs an update or total revamp.

I know the guy who came up with the list and only called it Rue Morgue's because he posted it on their board as well. Called it something else on another one. It was originally only 100 movies but so many people mentioned certain films should be on it so he included people's input. The list was also changed to "The most violent..." too include movies like Rambo, which is extremely violent.
There is a much newer list some where.

But, then what about 'Shoot 'Em Up' ? That was pretty violent.
I still don't see how Bloodrayne and Sleepy Hollow made it though.
The #1 spot, Braindead, is that actually the movie Brain Dead, or the other name for the film Dead Alive ( this was called Braindead in a few countries other then the US )? If it's actually Dead Alive, that damn scene where they pull the dogs leg out of the mothers throat always makes me gag. Also if it's actually Dead Alive, then Brain Dead ( not Dead Alive ) the film needs to be added to at least the top 20.
Rabid from 1977 had its share of blood. Still waiting for the remake, as it's supposed to be a lot gorier then the original.
I am not trying to slap a nest of hornets here. Just wondering 'why' on a few things.
When we have TV shows like The Walking Dead ( Greg Nicotero is a frikin genius ), and American Horror Story showing more of the red stuff then the movies coming out, we die hard gore hounds are in trouble.
So we turn to sites that we can actually talk with other people with the same thoughts.
Don't get me started on the glitter vamps. Twilight? Really?

This list is 50/50 IMO. About half is spot on, the other half is "meh". There are way to many films missing and a lot of these films don't belong on anyones sickest films list. I also hate when people overlook all of the shocking arthouse cinema from around the world. Sure films like Irreversible, In My Skin etc. are mentioned, but that is just scratching the surface. But, a thumbs up to the OP the films he did get right proves he has delved deep into these types of films. This is just my opinion and what do I know. Also, there a few I haven't got around to see yet and I'll be sure to check them out soon.

If I remember correctly the original list was started at least 3 years ago. And it mostly focused on the most extreme. But he welcomed everyone's input afterwards. I think the last time I saw an updated list, the Russian film Philosophy of the Knife took the #1 position away from Braindead / Dead/Alive.

You didn't find the american remake of "Funny Games" even a little bit disturbing?
I did, mainly because they didn't have to resort to blood and guts to build suspense and leave you guessing. The main intruder did an incredible job IMO. I know I'd never want that man in my house.

As for "From Dusk till Dawn", the parts I found most disturbing were the interactions between the Gecko brothers. Long before the vampires and gore entered into the film. When Seth comes back to the motel to find that Richard butchered their hostage.... his reaction, of disgust but also acceptance, was believably done. I find that disturbing.

No, I thought Funny Games was a waste of my time. These are just my opinions, and I am not bashing anyone who likes certain films.
As I mentioned though, someone should add the film Brain Dead seeing the #1 is actually Dead Alive. Brain Dead was pretty bloody, and for a bunch of unknown actors the story was pretty good and it didn't drag on.
I would edit the list, but I have not seen more then half of them, and a few I have seen would never get on a list like this in a horror web site.
I have to say, it's nice that people here are talkative and not stomping on me for having an opinion. Not like many other horror sites I have visited where they flame first and get pissy when you rebuttle.

Definitely not putting you down for your opinion. I've also enjoyed the open discussion format. There seems to be a fairly well rounded group of interests here, and since I enjoy films from each end of the horror spectrum, it has been an enjoyable experience joining this forum.
Not to say some of these guys don't loudly voice their opinions. But saying that, I personally have felt no retribution or derision for any of the posts I have made.
