Still good though. 8/10.Eh. Got into his books to a serious degree several years ago. Dude can write page-turners like nobody's business...until you get to the end.
9/10 times I was pissed when I got to the finish, because the rest of the story made his half-assed endings that much worse by comparison.

Yeah, that's what I've noticed about Chriton books, I'v only read Jurassic Park and Congo (tried Sphere but couldn't get into it) and he has a habbit of ending at a slower note.

An excellent read, if very light. Pretty much a collection of 3-5 page biographies of people who succeeded from all walks of life. Very inspiring stuff. It was both research for a writing project and for new personal inspiration.

Just Finished a book called "Spin". It's a weird Science Fiction book, it fallows 3 Kids, twin brother/sister who're raised ritch and the son of the house maid, all early teens who're outside in October when suddenly the stars are covered completly, like the night sky is just one giant black sheet. It's later revealed that the cover is slowing down Earth's time, for every second that passes on Earth, 3.17 Years passes for everything else in the Universe.
Had me intrigued from beggening to end, I'll have to read the sequel "Axis sometime.
9/10.
Now I'm starting into Book 3 of Stephen King's Dark Tower Series: The Wasteland.

Just finished reading Joe Hill's Heart-Shaped Box which was amazing. Then I read and dissected The Legend of Sleepy Hollow for something I'm working on, but enjoyed the classic that it is.
Right now I'm reading Hero about a fictional justice-league type world and follows a young superhero who also happens to be gay (but hiding it.) Very nicely told from a 1st person POV. Stan Lee gave it props.

This has always been my favoite poem. Fire & Ice by Robert Frost.
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

I just finished Sandstorm by James Rollins. I was in the mood for something with an Idiana Jones feel to it. This was basically a military version, so it worked for me. Their looking for a fabled city called Ubar. And theres a lot dealing with Anti-Matter. Its the first novel in Rollins' Sigma Force series. Theres a lot of action, seemed sorta Michael Bayish at times. I'm lookin forward to reading the next in the series.
Right now I'm reading EVENT by David Lynn Goleman. I picked it up because I bought the second in the series LEGEND not knowing it was a sequal, so I figured I'd read Event first. Its about this guy named Jack Collins who gets brought into the Event group. He doesn't know what to expect but doesn't even consider what it ends up being. Its sort of reminded me of Hellboy in the way its a secret orginization that deals with myths that could be true and could cause history altering "events". They have a lot of artifacts, one being Noahs Ark. In this one theres 2 aliens spacecrafts that have crashed on earth. And theres a lot to do with Area 51.
I dunno why they crashed yet, but theres a little green man in one of them and a monster gets unleashed on accident. It burrows under the ground and eats people like in tremors which is one of my favorite monster movies so thats a plus. Its pretty good so far. The second in in the series LEGEND has something to do with El Dorado, the fabled city of gold.

yea and dark hollow was pretty good. It's kind of a sequel but it feels a bit more like an addon, doesn't feel as well developed as his other books. It does tie up some interesting ends and you find out how all his books are connected.. but the actual main story itelf is lacking..still worth a read if you're like me and really like most of his work.

at this point it almost seems silly, i read those when i was 15 or 16 i think, i don't really remember what was going on. If it ever does come out I'll still buy it, if i remember the 2nd book had pretty interesting ending.

well so far i read:
the rising
city of the dead
dead sea
terminal
ghoul
and i got left to read on my shelf:
kill whitey
the rising selected scenes from the end of the world
the conqueror worms
dark hallow
fear of gravity
the new fear
ghost walk
clickers 2
i love his work so far, although people dont like his endings i thought city of the dead, dead sea, ghoul and terminal had pefect endings (city of the dead having one of the best endings i ever read..)
i have pretty much all his work besides a few short story collections, which i dont really care if i get them all. also suppose to be a book released by him called jacks magic beans but i cant seem to find it and it was removed from his website:shrugs:

for me it's all the books you read plus ghost walk and dark hollow, i'll have to track down some of his others now until his next story..but yea, i actually thought city of the dead had one of the best endings to a book i've ever read, and his other endings are usually very good as well. his endings are always very strong in my opinion. I always thought the ending to Ghoul was particularly good as well. only book i didn't find too great was ghost walk as i said before, but since i've read a decent amount of his other books it does get a bit more support from that..if i had only read say, terminal, it wouldn't have been quite as interesting.

I just finished The Touch of Twilight: The Third Sign of the Zodiac by Vicki Pettersson. It's a mixture of Buffy and Alias with astrology and it's own mythos mixed in. She's a wonderful author and it's a fabulous story. The first two are call The Scent of Shadows and the Taste of Night. Sadly, instead of continuing with the whole five senses as titles for the books, the fourth book is going to be called City of Souls.

Quite a bit late on this one, and kind of disappointed. No real depth to anything and it wouldn't have gotten any notice if Levitt hadn't re-hashed his abortion/crime rate correlation from a paper he wrote years before.

I just finished Book 6 of The Dark Tower Series, Song of Susannah. Pretty good book, but it along with Wolves of Calla (book 5) are both the weakest of the series so far. I'm now on the final Book, Book 7: The Dark Tower. It's weird, I'm feeling both excitment and sorrow that this is ending right now, I felt the same way when I finished the final book of a trilogy not to long ago either. I'm excited to see how it ends, but sad to think that it's going to end. Anyone else feel this way?

I was extremely satisfied with the end of Book 7. There seems to have been a notable conflict of opinion over the last few pages.
Most of the rest of Books 5-7 just made me sad. A lot of it felt like Stephen King was writing internet fanfiction for his own books.

Off Season (writer's cut) and Offspring. Both were great little page turners. What I like about these two books is the fact that they happen within a short time span (1 night). It doesn't give you time to hardly breathe.
I like how brutal he can be out of no where. I'm glad somebody turned me on to this guy.
Reading Infernal City by Edward Lee right now. So far, it's a pretty good read but his work seems to no be as "mature" as King's or Ketchum's. Not that he can't be brutal or graphically descriptive, but his themes seem to be more on the young adult lit side.

I am patient and can finish every book I read, but this is the first book I cannot not finish because it's so boring and just not use to reading a frame story like this. You really need to give that a re-read, especially with whatever footnotes are present in your version. You need to look at the role of Kurtz towards Marlowe in the central narrative and the effect Kurtz had on him, and see how that connects to what Marlowe is doing in the frame narrative.

I might give it a re-read after I'm done with the class in general because right now it feels like a choir just trying to finish it by monday (and I take my time in reading things and breaking down the whole point of the story and themes it has, with this book I can't really since this is a 6 week class for English 102, so we are getting work by the minute).
Kinda bad taking 102 in the summer because the work is rushed so fast, which means the class is gonna be rushed a lot. And I hate being rushed in finishing a book without taking time on it (which might lead me in being confused and bored with the book).

I've been meaning to read some of his stuff. I must admit I've been drifting away from the "liberal" side of the war on terror from reading far too many Christopher Hitchens books and articles. Though I do need a good argument against the idea that the Jihadist movement arose from something other than how fucking out there the Muslim faith is. I'm adding it to my shopping list.

I find his latest stuff boring as well. Liked the Odd Thomas series.
Just read:
Stephen King's "Bag Of Bones" - Fairly good but typical Stephen King "long way to get to a short resolution" kind of read. Had a few frights and a lovable character.
Richard Laymon's "The Woods Are Dark" - Terrible. Just terrible.
Brian Keene's "Urban Gothic" - Decent survivor horror read. Really stale storyline though. Basically "Hills Have Eyes" in the city.
