View Full Version : So, you just died, and now [this] happens...

What is it, folks?

I believe nothing happens at all. You're returned to the same oblivious state you existed in before you were born. IMO, life is just a break from death.

Let's be clear with what we say in this thread. If you think your spirit or whatever lives on, please explain the first thing you see after you take your last breath. I don't care what you are (Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu, Jehovah's Witness...whatever), all I want you to describe is what you truly believe you will see the moment your heart stops, your eyes roll back, and your skin begins to harden.

I just died, and now I see [your true belief]....

let's just say one time my life almost ended, and I remember seein' myself on the ground shakin' uncontrolably. I was just lookin' at myself and then all of a sudden BAM I'm on the ground comin' out of it.

Its kind of a touchy subject... like to forget 'bout that part of my life.

I used to think when we die we would come to a state of sudden realization. That everything made sense. Stone Hedge... All the mysteries of the world but made sense and we knew it all.

As of late i've been thinking alot about what happens when you die and I just don't see "my spirit" floating up to heaven, or hell, or lingering around haunting someone. I like to believe in ghosts but i don't believe that's what happens.

When you think about it. When we die... SOMETHING is to happen. It's just not black and that's it.

I'm really interested to hear other peoples thoughts on this...

I don't think everything ends when you die, but I still don't think we will feel or see any of it, so basicly, as far as we notice, it's the end. If that makes sense.

I hope there is something for us. I hope we feel, see or experience something, but I just don't think we will.

This is when you are dead though.
I think something happens during your death though, even if it's just something "little" as seeing your life flash by, like everyone says, or if it's something big as a realization.

EDIT: It's things like the last part of my post that makes me kinda wanna see how it feels to die, but it's the nothingness of the first part of my post that makes me scared shitless of death. I love existing.

you are forced to explain what happens, why you believe it happens and then nitpick when others views don't set well with yours, all in free floating ecto plasmic coverred haunted message board. Once one of you is proven right you all go to that after life.

While I can't believe in anything that really isn't at least somewhat proven I can only suggest what I would like to happen. That would be after I die there will be a moment of blackness a state of unconsciousness followed by me coming to and woken up in a empty space by one of my closest relatives. They will show me what happened and how the family took it and how they are now then welcome me into whatever is next.

I believe people want to and have to believe that there is something after this life because if not then the decisions we make and the life we lead now would be nothing but a joke. If you knew that there would be nothing after life the majority of people including myself would live our lives a lot differently. The belief in a heaven and hell is necessary to give us hope and justification.

I believe in god and Jesus and all that jazz things other than comfort. It's easier for me to believe that there was some kind of devine entity behind it all than pure coincidence. Any closer to the sun and we'd burn, any farther away and we'd freeze. We can create marvels of technology where as the closest thing that follows in the animal kingdom is compiling sticks together and digging holes. I hope there's something more behind it all after death but if nothing happens, well that doesn't sound too bad either. The thought of being reborn into something else though just doesn't sit well with me.

I believe that I'll be getting judged by an angel about all the things I've done in my life then I'll either go to heaven or not But I believe I will because I have faith in God and maybe I'll get to ask him all the questions I want to ask and see family members and hopefully God has a real good sense of humor and can tell me some out of this world jokes that would be awesome.

Personally, I'm an atheist, so I don't believe in life after death, however, for me, the last thing I want to see right before I die is the fact that I have finally found true happiness.

People who always state their opinion as so "matter of fact" never fail to crack me up.

I just died and what happens...Doesn't matter. Nobody knows whats beyond this existence. Nobody. Everyone has their ideas and beliefs about what waits for us in the after life, some choose to believe in heave, others a different plane of existence and some in nothingness. In the end doesn't really matter. Seriously, why worry about something that is inevitable and that you have no control over? Instead try to think about what you can do in this life instead of what waits beyond. If you're worried about the heaven/hell scenario, you shouldn't have anything to worry about aslong as you're a good person. Right? Right.

I believe in eternal life and I believe it will be possible one day. If not that then some form of youth genetic vaccine or formula that they can use to allow us to live for years and years longer. Of course it probably wont be affordable for us lower/midder class folk.

I want to live for a long time. Perhaps its fear or maybe its just me wanting to see what happens next. I've always enjoyed the mysteries and intricacies of time travel and what it could possibly offer. If not to change a life in the past or the future but rather offer longevity with life.

My question is: What created us? And before we were created what existed..nothing? and if nothing existed?...what did it look like? All blackness or white? .... Thoughts?

As an agnostic, I don't know. I'd like to think there's something after but I, nor anybody else, knows... and to be honest, it's the most rational position to take on this issue.

To totally disbelieve in an afterlife is just as presumptuous as totally believing there is one.

There's simply no way to truly know one way or another until I die and I personally don't want to know.

I'm with Redpath on this, I hope they figure out how to treat aging as the degenerative genetic disease that it is and find a fucking cure for it.

Try being an agnostic with atheist attributes in a Christian family, that shit isn't fun.

Every freaking time we have a family get-to-together, if we are eating, we pray. They all know what I believe and still make me join hands or I won't hear the last of it. I am the only one with my eyes wide open, yawning and asking "can we eat yet?" when the prayer is going on.

I don't hate any kind of religion, I just have beliefs that are my own. More power to you if you are passionate and follow a religion, I respect that...but respect the fact that I have my own beliefs and don't act like my close minded family. My mom sometimes even has the nerve to ask "Why don't you believe in GOD? I didn't raise you like that."

"Well mother, I am not some faceless person in the crowd, I have my own beliefs."

I personally believe that life continues in some form after physical death. What exactly is the after-life and what do we do there? I have no idea. It's really impossible for any of us to know because none of us are dead. I don't believe it's as simple as there is a heaven and a hell. I'm more with the new-age/spiritual thinking that there may be an infinite number of other realities and dimensions besides this one. Then again, I am also open to the possibility that there may be nothing after death. Again, there is really no way any of us can know and to truly be open-minded you have to believe anything is possible.

Just Kidding

I'm going to agree with Warbeast on the issue. I'm agnostic. Nobody knows what the fuck is going to happen to us when we die until we die and even then we might just experience nothing, you just cease to exist forever. Either way I'm not worried about it.

As I get older the less I believe in God and an after life. It tseems there comes a point when life stops giving and starts taking (people) and you look around at the suffering and pain, and disease, war, and other tragedies and can't help questioning that there is a higher intelligence...and if there is, he, she, or it must be suffering from senility.

I used to be worried about this even though I'm young. But now I've come to grips with the fact that there's nothing you can do. The choices:

A) Nothing happens and you don't care because you're dead
or
B) Something happens which will most likely be good unless you're just a bad person.

Either way, I'm sure most of us are covered.

I believe that there is a single point in every single persons life weather it be young or old at which we reach the peek of our happiness. This is a place or a state of mind but either way its a place that somehow gets recorded into our minds. That feeling becomes stored.

Then i think when we die we go to that place or state of mind much like a dream state when you are sleeping. You have no concept of time you just experience the moment for all time in an endless loop of pure happiness.

I just hope whatever happens there is no work, no stress and lots of rest.

I use to believe nothing happens, that we cease to be.... Long story short my father passed away in 2001 of lung cancer, loved to smoke...moderation was not his strong suite...

anyways i turned 29 this year and at roughly 1205am i woke up to a very strong stench of cigarette ash...not like smoking smelling, but after a cig has been put out for awhile smell...He was there, i couldn't see him, but the feeling was there. I didn't think 'who is smoking in my house/is the window open' i thought of my dad because he was sitting right there wishing me a happy birthday.

nobody smokes in my house, windows were closed and it kinda freaked me out, but also gave me some comfort to know that he is still around and does check in on me from time to time....also kind of refreshed a little bit of faith.

not in a man created god mind you, but faith.

I believe for all our lives we have a soul which is like a supernatural battery that without it, you really are just this lifeless being that has no personality or feelings. Once we die, we have our soul. I think they're is a number of possible things that could happen after that. Maybe God, Gods, or Goddess come to reap our souls for whatever purpose. Either be heaven and hell or reincarnation. I personally believe that we move on to a greater (or warmer) place and there is a God. Contrary to popular belief I don't think God judges us our fashion styles that we wear to Church. It's all faith. I call scientific theories faith because you know you still might be wrong, you don't think you are, but you might be wrong, but you believe it anyways.

I believe when you die you lose 21 grams of body weight because that is your soul leaving your body. Then you go up to Heaven and sit with God. There He tells you why the bad and good things in your life have happen to you. You learn the impact your life has had on others. Then you feel eternal bliss. Constant happiness and contentment. You know those feelings, like on christmas morning or falling in love for the first time. Mmmmmm those feelings are fantastic. Just think you feel like that forever. If you are truly evil to the core you go to hell. You feel constant pain, suffering, regret and depression. There is no relief, no coping, no getting use to if. It is eternal damantion. Hey, but that is just my opinion.
