View Full Version : Do you donate blood or platelets
Just curious, or are you a pussy? :D
I donate every time I get the chance, but I was curious if some of ya'll do it. I discovered today that out of 3000 people at my company 140 donated. I would've figured the number to be much higher, but I guess people find something sacred about their blood.
Never know when you'll need it, so it's good to give to others what you may need yourself one day!

I don't, and has alot to do with the fact that I have some darn disease thingy, and I'm pretty sure getting my blood isn't too good. Even if the disease isn't harmful.

Translation: I'm broke and could use the money. Plus you get free cookies and fruit juice and that's way better than someone else's 'needs'.

i don't because i usually get a vasovago reaction to the tourniquet because so many damn phleb techs suck at what they do and cant find my vein and i have to find it for them.....but i am on the bone marrow donor registry and im an organ donor.

I donate blood, and platlets every chance I get. I go between Red Cross, and Miller Keystone. For some reason each do their drives at almost the same time so I have to pick and choose who gets it.

Nah, I don't get $$$ for it. Up here in MA you donate for nothing except that fruit juice you speak of and maybe a fruit cup..and that's only to help your body speed up the process of replenishing your blood stream. They come to my workplace; everyone who donates does it for nothin'.
Maybe people are more greedy in California so that's what you're used to. By the way, I take your reply as your confession of pussyism. :D

Thought they didn't pay for blood donations anymore as a way of trying to keep people with diseases away and get really only those who are interested in "helping" others.
Yeah, I think the only thing you can donate and get paid for nowadays is sperm. Maybe Knightz is trying to make a confession.

I don't. It's a combination of not caring, not finding time, and the stories I hear about dirty needles and contracting diseases

You can get paid for sperm and plasma but not blood.
I donated like once or twice but that was because the blood mobile was at my school and I much rather give blood than go to class. Other than that I haven't but I am a proud organ donor.

Never have, but it's always one of those things I think I should do.
Seems to me it's one of those things that could do worlds of good if people (like myself) just took the time to do their part, now and again...

I've been debating on it, but in doing so that my be considered a good deed... And I'm just not sure I can bring myself to do that.

Where I live, platelets are $45 for the first donation, and if you come back within 7 days, you get another $35.
Donating blood is not paid, but a few of my professors would give extra credit if you did...
I never did. I couldn't remember to, and when I did, I didn't have time.

I could never do it. I don't like needles. I don't even like getting my blood work done since I pass out once they stick the needle in my vein.
