I haven't seen many underground horrors in comparison. I'd like to see some more of the better genre offerings. I've seen a few that were really weak efforts and wanna check some of the good works to help me get more into them.
Thus I need some recommendations for flicks, sooo...

alright, well there are many different types of underground flicks to choose from. Straight up exploitation, sexploitation, forgotten movies, gore films, torture movies and just straight up nastyness.

Let me start by naming some staples of the genre:

The August Underground trilogy (great movies that arn't just the same thing over and over again. Each chapter of the trilogy has a story and atmosphere that differs from the others. Definitely a must see for people starting out in the genre)

Salo (a sort of sexploitation movie about 4 libertines who take 18 kids and put them through various torture; such as being sexually abused, feed shit, tortured and other acts of vileness. Must see for anyone who wants to see a true artistic view on the genre)

Aftermath/Genesis (nothing really to say about these films except that are vile and disgusting but yet you can't keep you eye of the beauty of them. It's shocking to see how well made a gore picture can be.)

Violent Shit trilogy (Shot on video, cheap, cheesy, extremely violent...what more needs to be said?)

I Spit on Your Grave (not really underground nowadays but definitely a very nasty little film. If you like rape and revenge movies then you'll love this one cause this is one of the greats.)

Thriller: A Cruel Picture (Another staple in the rape/revenge genre and an all around good movie. And hardcore sex is always a plus :D)

I know there is a shitload more but for someone who wants to test the waters these movies are all great watches. I'm sure Cata has alot more to add so stay tuned.

Give Genesis a view, it's one of the other movies that comes with the dvd of Aftermath. I know its one of Catas favorite films.

Definitely watch the AU movies and Thriller though.

The Devil's Experiments...Seriously? No offense but that movie is a goddamn joke. I hate the Guinea Pig movies, but I can see recommending Flesh and Blood but Devil's Experiments...The only thing "shocking" about that movie is its popularity.

I wanna recommend Revenge of Billy the Kid. A farmer fucks a goat, and Billy, the goat monster, is born.

I don't think MSP gets the love it deserves.

That because most people didnt get to see the uncut directors cut of the movie. They are stuck with the shittty, watered down rated R version. I was lucky enough to see the screener version which is even longer than the directors cut :D

Slayer ain't talkin' shit- Salo and Aftermath- whew. Extreme to be sure. I have only one recommendation as I've not seen anyone else talk about this classic- It's called Combat Shock (also known as American Nightmares). Troma released this as Combat Shock, but don't let that keep you away from this one-of-a-kind low-budget descent into one man's private hell. This involves a traumatized Vietnam vet who lives w/his horrible wife and deformed baby in a total slum. The only weak point of this grueling film is the synthesizer score at times..other than that- prepare for one of the most horrendously true-life and hard to watch undergrounders of all time. It's older-'bout 15-18 yrs old by now, but FIND THIS BITCH.

I would reccomend Gutterballs and Hanger - a pimp tries to abort one of his ho's pregnancy with a wire hanger killing the ho but the mutilated fetus survives and is dubbed Hanger by one of her jons. Pretty sick movie

Bad Biology is another one that I found well done and interesting but I dont think it would be on par with any of the other movies listed on here.

for naughtiness the august underground films pack a punch, as does
A Serbian Film, switchblade romance, cannibal holocaust, guinea pig, nekromantik 1 (2 was manure), snuff 101,

i always recommend the newer horrors from small outfits from europe and asia.......also australia is starting to churn a few out too; including wolf creek and the new cool teen horror the loved ones which i just bought on blu ray.........

I am a huge fan of Paulin and have all of his films. He truly does the because of his love of the genre and the people that watch this kind of film. On that note I must admit that I was a bit disappointed with BloodPigs, not the movie itself or its concept (which I think is great), but the fact that the transfer is so jumpy I honestly could not watch the whole thing in one sitting because my head was hurting so bad!

I often find deliberately paced films refreshing. I'd wanted to see this one for years after seeing the clips in Terror in the Aisles and wasn't disappointed. I was, however, more than a little wigged out the first time I watched it because my ex fiancee is a dead ringer for Zoe in that film.

Deliberate is a word I'd use to describe most Abel Ferrara movies that I've seen.

I'll have to check these out. I've wanted to see Anthropophagus since watching Lampyman01's reviews of the whole "video nasties" phenomenon, on youtube. If you haven't checked out his channel, give it a shot. Even shitty movies sound pretty interesting when reviewed with an accent.

I am somewhat familiar with D'Amato though. I have several of his films in my Black Emmanuelle volumes one and two boxsets :2thumbs:

(Buio) Also love the embalming scene and the sound effects were awesome and pretty much the whole movie. It takes a few minutes to get going, but once the gore starts it mostly keeps going til the end. which is all i ask really.

And yes on Antro, it was built up so much to me that the first time i watched it ended up being just ok. but then after a few more views i really started to like it

I'll have to check out Buio Omega. I bought Anthropophagus on a whim and I could take it or leave it. There were a lot of dead scenes where things drug on too long, which is to be expected of a film that came out in that time. But other than that, there were a lot of really solid scenes. The more I think about it, the more I remember enjoying several awesome effects in that flick, but I'm still left with a feeling of "meh." :shrugs:
