So I am not much into horror books because they tend to be too darn descriptive with not enough action...that was until I discovered Richard Laymon. He is one of the most brutal and awesome horror writers I have ever had the pleasure of reading. It all started with "The Woods Are Dark"...then I read books like "Cuts" and "The Cellar".....I highly recommend any fan of horror fiction to read his books. They are extremely fast paced and you will find yourself reading them very quickly. Check him out for sure.

I read The Island and.....one about a mummy that I can't remember the name of. Anyway the guy's stories start out good enough and keeps you interested. But he never gets as good as he could for the simple fact all he wants to talk about is sex. Although The Celler or whatever that series is about some kind of monster. I'm curious about that one.

Yes his stories are always sexually graphic....sometimes at really inappropriate times, and that is a little bothersome, but not enough to ruin the book for me. But I do see what you mean.

and being a guy, I never thought I'd actually say that! But its the same with the Anita Blake vampire hunter series. I'm thinkin damn it woman put on your pants and go kill somethin! stop fuckin everything you see! But abotu Laymon, is the celler a good read? I'm thinkin thats the series that I mean. I know he did a series of like 3 books that had something to do with some kind of monster. The Island is a good book and if your a laymon fan you should read it, but wholly hell the sexual stuff.

All of which are awesome.

I have read damn near all of his books and I love them! The one that I am having a hard time with is Savage, its about Jack the Ripper and I dont know why but i cant get into it:shrugs: All the other ones I finish in like 2 days, sometimes one!

me 2! I read them so fast! It's not like King or Koontz where I have to put it down because it is killing my brain. Laymon serves it straightforward and fast. I love that!

I've read one of his short stories and I liked it, but he came up with a dumb excuse for the main character to get naked for the entire story, and then there was a rape scene. Haven't read any of his other stuff. I always get pulled out of the story when there is an unrealistic sex scene and you can tell the author is just jerking himself off in text format. :jerkin:

Then Laymon may not be for you. All of his books have unnecessary sex. It's my biggest issue with him. Amazing horror writer with a bit too much sex on the brain.

One Rainy Night was also good, but I much prefer Jack Ketchum to Laymon.

I love Laymon, I am a collector and own all of his novels in hardcover. I even have the short novels he wrote for kids. He is a great author and as an aspiring writer myself, I can only hope to be such a good writer.
