LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Influential film critics Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper are departing the movie-review show that bears their names, the two announced separately, leaving the program's future unclear.

Ebert, 66, who has been sidelined as co-host of "At the Movies with Ebert & Roeper" since 2006 due to health problems, said in a statement posted on Monday on the Web site of the Chicago Sun-Times that he was ending his relationship with the show.

He had no explanation for his departure, but said producers had decided to "take the program in a new direction." Ebert, arguably America's best-known film critic, had remained active behind the scenes despite losing his voice to cancer.

I had no idea that the show stilled aired. Won't be missed didn't give a shit about their opinions most times any way. Sad he has cancer though didn't know that either.

You could already tell that Ebert wasn't gonna come back anytime soon if not at all due to health issue's. I believe that there gonna be some guy by the name of Ben Lyon's who i think did do stuff for the E channel forget the other guy's name off hand though.

producers trying to "take the show in a new direction" means their probably just screwing him out of his job, not wanting him to come back.

Just as they replaced Siskel when he died, it should now be Roeper and that new guy. Phillips or something. Because, you can't keep calling the show "Ebert & Roeper" when Ebert is absent for more than a year.

Things change.

As is the case here. One guy cant do it anymore due to health reasons. The other guy doesnt want any part of it so its time for some new faces on an old concept.
