View Full Version : Do You Feel Safe In Your Neighborhood?

My reason for posting this has to do with a phone call I received during dinner earlier tonight. Seems like the community board in my area is asking residents how we feel about safety (subways, walking out at night, in home, etc.) and are the police doing a good or a bad job.

My response: I feel safe in my house (bars on the basement windows and a steel security door for my patio) and in the subways. I wouldn't walk through Central Park in NYC at night but I would jog through the park by my house at midnight...easily. The cops do a great job and overall...yes I do feel safe.

Do you?

At my home in Pensacola I feel safe there's a good distance between houses and we're on a major road so lots of traffic.

At my apartment here in Tampa I feel safe but not as much. It's a bigger city with bigger idiots. There's a huge car theft rate and some robberies but I guess that's part of being in a big city. I'm slowly getting use to it and becoming more comfortable.

Right now in where I'm at, a bit less than regularly at home. In the past month, there have been two big murder cases, one of which was where the body of a woman was found dead up the road at a hotel. Someone left a note saying that he killed her, had killed before, and will continue. Nut case said his idol is the Zodiac Killer. Cops don't think this person really did it, and is just some jackass trying to be funny. Not sure if they've arrested the person who wrote this note. I've also gotten in many fights around here, have a few enemies, had a knife to my throat by one guy I know, and stuff like that.

At my real home, in the area I'm in, I feel very safe. Been only in a few little fights, and no one around my area is really an enemy to me, except for one guy, but he's such a little bitch, he'd only try something if he was with other people, otherwise, he tries kissing my ass. Though, there are parts in the city I live in, some areas pretty close, where they aren't the best places to live. I lived in a really ghetto area for a bit in a one room apartment with 3 other people, and I would hear gun shots all the time, see gangs all around, hookers, drug dealers, and stuff of that sort.

Yep, that's how it is.

What about the job the police in your area are doing?

good, bad, ok, real shit, etc.

My neighborhood isn't the best... We always have kids walkin' on my street breakin' into cars (I like on a back road in front of a major road). And I swear if I ever catch one of those kids breakin' into shit I will break his legs with a baseball bat. Plus I feel safe in my house since in my room I have a 12 inch blade by my door and a .38 under my mastress so if ppl wanna fuck around go ahead I have no problem droppin' u in ur tracks!

Around here, it's not too bad, I guess. I'm never really around long enough to pay attention closely to how they are.

Where I live, it's pretty good in certain areas. I have a few friends who are cops, and the areas seem to be doing well, but you know that cops can only do so well. There will always be more crime in certain areas than others and cops can't always get every crime dealt with.

However, I feel safe in my house because I have at least ten blades randomly placed in my room :D. And at my dad's house, he's got a pistol under his pillow and a shotgun under his matress. So, if some mother fucker desides to bust into either house, dude's not leaving the house alive. And if he does, I'm draggin' his ass back in :D.

Heeeell no. I've lived in this ghetto-ass apartment complex since I was 5 years old and it's just gotten worse and worse throughout the years.

- A guy was once shot near the pool area.
- One of our former neighbors tried to stab his wife to death, and then later turned himself in.
- My mom was mugged by four lil' assholes and broke two fingers when they yanked her bag.
- People, residents or not, are intentionally breaking perimeter gates and locks because they don't wanna pay the $5 for keys.
- We have gang members.
- The week doesn't begin nor end without the cops coming out here due to some fight or domestic violence.

Yeah, it's pretty rough. HELL, I'd say. To some of you who live in normal neighborhoods, where you claim to get BORED of all the peace and tranquility, you have no idea. Be grateful for it.

He was just swingin the knife at my throat fuckin' bitch.... I swear if I ever see that kid again he's gonna get his ass beat.... I've heard he wants to say sorry to me, but FUCK THAT... he fuckin' tried to stab me, but he's gonna get his sooner or laterr.

Dude, I wish we had a fuckin' camera guy across the road because my friend saw this about ten feet away. So, he ran up behind the guy, jumped at least five feet in the air, and punched this fucker square in the side of the head. Dude went down, and we beat the shit out of him and chucked his knife away.

I live in an old rusty mill town, the downtown area is pretty bad. Bunch of druggies and such. There was a meth lab busted in the basement of a care center for the elderly and mentally challenged a few years back. And last fall a guy that grew up a block away and graduated with my sister beat a man and woman to death with 2x4 after having a three way with them, all for $1,800 and some coke.

The part of town I live in though isn't bad. It's a good distance from the downtown area and most of the neighbors are old retirees. So yeah, I feel safe.

Henderson (just outside of Vegas) is for some reason Domestic Abuse central or something because that's all I see or read about. Vegas though, growing up there was crazy. Once saw a man gun down another one right out in the street and tell us to call the cops for him...

And no one takes me seriously but I felt safer in LA more than I do in Vegas.

Safe enough to live here. I've heard of a crime here or there in my city but nothing serious to live in fear. I've left sliding doors, garage back doors open all night nothing. I sleep with a bedroom window open, nothing. This is a cool place. I've walked around around midnight with friends, not a peep.

there was an attempted rape a couple blocks away but man the girls out here are hot so its expected.

I feel very safe when around town,I have a permit to carry.
We also have a Neighborhood Watch program, which is really nice when I'm not at home.

I am so obsessed with home protection,it has become a problem that I am working on trying to fix,but I feel very safe in my home as well.

Dunno about this place, its quiet and stuff but with more trailer trash moving in here and there and throwing their kids away like garbage I dunno. I felt safer back in the bay area where I used to live. this place is so foreign, being filled with trailer trash and Mormons....

Aurone, you live in WA as well so you know how bad White Center was, well now where I live Federal Way is becoming just like it, crime EVERYWHERE, shootings all the time, I hate it, I want to move closer to the boondocks because of it, i feel safe near woods, not where I'm at now, and the cops here are trying hard to get it all under control, but so far its still REALLY shitty, plus theres too many tweekers around here.:shakehead

Smith and Wesson helps me have a peace of mind. If it comes down to protecting my family you think im gonna wait around for the Police?? Hell no, I will smoke anybody that's in my house or trying to get in my house. Shoot first, ask questions later. Dont get me wrong, I dont live in the ghetto but living in this fucked up world you have to protect yourself.

there was a really brutal rape/murder at a vet clinic about a mile from here about a year and a half ago, but they caught the dude and it was a random thing. I live very close to a city (Jacksonville, Fl) with a high murder rate but most of those murders are gang/drug related (on Halloween last year a man opened his door to what he thought were trick or treaters but instead he got shot in the face, but thankfully survived, random again) but my actual neighborhood seems pretty safe.

I'm in a nice suburb of Pittsburgh where the cops routinely patrol in cruisers. Safe enough in the community at any hour. Like Dark J, I'm carrying with a license, so with that goes a certain state of "alertness." In or out of the house I feel secure.

My neighborhood is fine. Has been for a long time. The next town over though is another story.

We always have a rivalry football game every year at Thanksgiving and we've won like 20 straight in the meeting and they havent won since the late 70s/early 80s and every year after the game some of them come up here and vandalize our high school. Guess they have nothing better to do.

My neighborhood is generally safe. We have had vandalism once or twice for the 23 years I've lived here, but they were minor. There was an incident with my neighbor about two years ago. My neighbor next door is a vietnam vet. My family and I have always known him as a nice, quiet guy.

Two years ago, the guy suffered some sort of nervous/mental breakdown and threatened to kill himself, along with his wife and family. This happened about 3-5 times where the paramedics and police were summoned over to the house. The fifth time, he was escorted out of the house handcuffed with cuts up and down his arms and chest. He was committed to an inpatient hospital ever since, until a few months ago.

The guy has been released and has now moved back in with his wife. To be honest, I feel a little uneasy about it. The guy hardly says anything to us anymore and is always glaring us and other neighbors as they leave and enter their homes. We're uncomfortable letting our dogs outside, since they constant bark at him non-stop. So far, there haven't been any incidents after the guy was released.

well In my hometown of cleveland,tn its pretty safe only about 40,000 people live here. there is at least one murder a year in my town there are about 30 rapes or attempted rapes a year. The worst thing we have is assault and property related crimes whether it be vandalism or theft. its okay here. OUR COPS SUCKS ASS THOUGH. see in the south we have a little thing called personal justice this happens a lot. The cops are not very good and most are corrupt. I had an instance where i had a peeping tom and we called the cops 3 times and all they did was drive aroudn the block 40 feet away from my apartment in the dark shinning a flash light wellt his area was a wooded area behind my house even though we live in a close nit neighborhood. well my father got sick of this shit so the fourth time the fucker came to try and look in my room i walked in the livin room annoyed told my dad. he went out there with a kitana and chased the fucker away all i heard was "i see you mother fucker!!!" apparently the guy was lying 5 feet away from my window on the ground against the chain link fence. needless to say he enver came back. we have baseball bats swords guns yeah its pretty safe. (because we fight back) now here in corpus christi on the other hand where i live there have been 5 break ins in the past two years. there are over 27 sex offenders who live in my zip code alone. i sleep with the kitana my father gave me and the knife that goes with it is under my bible on my night stand. i live in an up stairs apartment so the only way soemone is gettin in is through the front door but unless they gotta gun they aint gettin out alive. IM not afraid to fight nor is my hubby its ther southern way, but im protected by the castle doctrine so i can kill the fucker if i want to. ive never had any probs here though i dont know any of my neighbors they keep to themselves.
