I started reading this series a few years ago and from the get-go, I was pretty much hooked. The world of vampires, werewolves and other supernatural critters in the Anitaverse really spoke to my inner-geek. Anita is a fun character to read; smart, tough, powerful and snarky... and the books are just damn violent as hell.

I will say though, as the series goes along, some of the later books kinda lose something and the last book I read, Incubus Dreams, should've been titled "And We Fuck and Fuck and Fuck and Fuck"... I don't mind some fuckin in a book, but Laurel seemed to totally forsake the story in that one just to write one fuck-scene after another... kind of soured me on the series a bit and I haven't continued with it... BUT all the books up to that point are really fun.

Anyone else check these out?

I agree 100%. I was a huge fan (and the comics are pretty good to by the way) because the world just seemed like everything I had been looking for. It was horror but it was so much more too. I really dug the fact that it was the real world, yet all these things existed. Then after awhile it became "who is anita gonna fuck in this chapter" then it got worse and became "how many people can anita fuck in this chapter" I got halfway through incubus dreams and thought alright thats it, I can't take this no more! Hamilton through out the story for porn.

I've tried to stay away from Vampire stories since Interview With The Vampire.

I've told myself I'll read them all one day. The only reason I haven't so far is because there's so many in the series already so I would need time to catch up.

I don't think we're the only ones who are annoyed with the constant fuckity-fuck aspect of the later books... I was at a sci-fi con a while back and was discussing her work with some folks and it was same general consensus, Anita Black was the shit... until Hamilton started forsaking the story for just fucking.

Didn't know there was a comic series... thanks for the heads up, gonna have to check it out!

I liked the series until it turned into porn. I think the only one she hasn't fucked is Edward.

:hmmm:

Edward is the shit. I always pictured a younger version of Julian Sands for some reason for Edward. He is the bounty hunter right?? Been awhile since I read any of em.

yes he's a bounty hunter/US Marshal like anita now. unfortunately, I have kept up with the series because I guessed I'm married to LKH. (in a literary kind of sense).
I want to see it through because I 'm curious as to where she's going. The book she's working on for next year sounds good.

I only got through the first 3 books or so, I liked what I was reading, but i did get tired of the story line, it was almost the same thing. New bad guy and new hot guy. But I am sure I will read the rest of them some day, I did hear that the newer ones are mostly about sex. I don't know if i really like the fact all that much.
