I've been out of the comic buying loop for a while now... I download story-arcs here and there, like the Marvel Civil War and stuff, but I'm want to jump back into buying.. where should I start?
What the hell is going on in the big universes that's worth jumping into?
Any guidence would be appreciated...

Red Hulk doesn't have a lot of story depth to it, but its a fun monster mash and the art is really great because its Ed Mcguinnes (his stuff rocks). Red Hulk has already gotten into it with (the new) abomination, Hulk and Thor. Been some pretty good fights so far.
Wolverine Old Man Logan (starts in Wolverin 66 I believe) is a GREAT storyline. Theres only 2 out right now but its great. Its set 50 years in the future and something has happend that pretty much killed off the superheroes and the bad guys rule everything. Wolverine goes by Logan now because has sworn off violence, the hulk gang shows up for Logans rent money and when he doesn't have it they kick his ass and threatin his family (he doesnt fight back) and his buddy hawkeye, who is blind now but still great with a bow, offers him a job to make money but he has to go across the country with him. A country that is split up and ruled by the bad guys. Its sort of an old west/mad max type setting. Its a really really great storyline so far.
I'm also reading All Hail Megatron if your a transformers fan its good. Its sort of a what if comic by IDW that has the decepticons make it to earth, but the autobots don't show up. And how the people deal with the situation and fight back. I like it so far, I love their version of Frenzy.
Locke and Key is not part of the big comic universes, but its a very good dramatic horror story. This family has to move into this mansion with their uncle because their father was murdered. The murderer comes after them but theres all this weird stuff in the house. The youngest kid finds a door that if you go through it you "die" and become a ghost and can go anywhere and noone sees you, but if you go back through the door you come back to life. Theres an evil spirit in a well that talks to the kid. And its also getting the murderer to do things for it. Its a very WEIRD storyline but its very very good. Its not gonna finish until this winter though, its taking a break which is annoying. Its written by Stephen Kings son.
Final Crisis I'm reading that, its alright so far. Very VERY confusing if you haven't been reading the stuff prior to it, which I haven't. Its starting to make a little sense but its gonna need another issue or 2 to I think before it gets really good.
Batman R.I.P. got kinda funny in the last episode because Batman has basically went nuts. As far as I can put together someone is trying to ruin him and he created this other personally to take over to try to find out whats going on. This other personality is insane. He calls himself the Batman of Kaz-en-rah or something like that. He wears different colors and goes around with a baseball bat beating the shit out of people. The gargoyles on the buildings talk to him and everything. Its actually getting kind of comical in that way. But I'm digging it so far. Theres a society called The Black Glove thats trying to destroy everything that Batman represents
I also hear good things about Secret Invasion but I haven't read it. I think I'll wait for it to be out in graphic novel. Marvels been kinda getting on my nerves lately with the initiative and all that stuff. Making all the superhero stuff very military and just annoying in my book. But then again I do dig the ultimates.

oh yes, and Deadpool is coming back in September in his own solo comic. So is there a God? I think I just answered the question.

Yep. Joe Q came up with the idea from a fan suggest about doing more "Marvel *noun*" stuff, like Marvel Zombies.

I think that Captain America is a gorilla and Luke Cage is a baboon, just going on my little knowledge of primates. I wish that they would follow up the "Werewolf" angle from MZ vs. AOD and have Ash fight them.

I wonder if the marvel ape stuff is funny or kiddie. I'll have to check it out when it comes out in a graphic novel.

It's supposed to be pun filled. MONK-hattan, Spider-MONKEY, etc. I guess its gonna be like Spider-Ham.

Well, it's not a superhero book but THE WALKING DEAD by Robert Kirkman and published by Image is probably the best ongoing comic book around right now. Basically a book about a group of people trying to survive a zombie apocalypse. What makes the book great is that it follows these people weeks and months after the plague hits, and the characters and situations are very believable, as opposed to some of the zombie movies out right now. The book is really brutal and not afraid to kill off major characters. You can find the first eight trade paperbacks at pretty much any Barnes and Noble or Borders book stores. Highly recommended:nod:
