I dont date cause im married but I dont talk to dumbass people at work that have bad taste in movies for example, there is this chick that I work with that can spend 2 hours of her life to watch The Water Horse but cant get past 5 min of Batman Begins!!! WTF is wrong with people??? In all honesty I just look at her and think YOUR ONE DUMB BITCH...everyday.

hey i have used movies and music as a reason not to date people. not to be mean, but back in the day when i did date, it was scary for the poor guys that did listen to hip hop or what ever the hell you call it now to be around me and my friends. one guy that i was dating came to a friends house with me and we listen to the death metal and the guy was kinda freaking bout that. then we watched hellraiser 3 and the poor guy barfed his brains out. no thanks. i cant be cleaning up after that kind of stuff

Exactly. When my wife and I first started dating, she wasn't a big fan of horror. Years later, she's still not. But she'll sit here with me and watch anything I pop in the dvd player with very few words of complaint.

Sometimes the music or movies reflect other personality traits which would be very difficult for me to appreciate. Someone who enjoyed MTV style rap music and crap like Epic Movie would not be very high on my list of people to date unless there were some serious other factors to be attracted to.
My wife was lamenting that she wanted to watch The Blob (1958), but when she also saw 976-EVIL and found out it was directed by Englund, we watched that instead. And from time to time I'll join her for some documentary too.

he was really good looking too. but that was also ten years ago. when i met my old man we had some things in common, but movies is one thing that we do bicker about. he likes movies like scary movie and stuff like that. but i think i have trained him to appricate the horror genre. yesterday when i picked up my cannibal holocust set he was begging me to watch it, but i told him to wait til we can get rid of the kids for a night cause i dont want them walking down into the middle of that one

Was secretly one of the reasons me and my ex didn't do well as a couple I think. I mean, its just hard to relate to someone who says movies like High Tension and The Descent were "ok, kinda dumb" and then says their favorite is the remake of Gone In 60 Seconds? Nonsense.
I won't say I would not date someone who didn't like horror movies, but I'd much much rather that they do.

When I met my wife, she had just left a relationship with an anime-junkie, hardcore James Bond fan. I told her very honestly that I didn't care much for Bond, but my Nightmare on Elm Street fandom was probably as scary.
She still likes Freddy. :D
But yeah - there are times when we look forward to nap time or an early bedtime. Last night was Lost Boys 2.

The style of movies doesn't matter to me, but they have to just be into movies in general. That's one of my very few stipulations when it comes to dating. I can watch any kind of movie. But to watch no movies at all would be too brutal.
Grendel
09-02-2008, 05:36 PM
Unless he/she is so overbearing as to force their taste onto you, insisting that their tastes be continually indulged with no quid pro quo, there shouldn't be any problem.
If they are that sort of individual, then you've got bigger problems than movies.

GF hasn't seen many movies to develop much of a taste so I just feed her all kinds of titles. I slow down when she asks for a break, she's got a lot of catching up to do when it comes to films in general.

It would depend on how defensive they where towards there personal choices. If you couldn't make a small comment critiquing the movie you just watched it would be a problem. Though if the person in question could keep from blowing there stack it might work.

Quite the arduous task finding a girl who loves horror. :hmmm:
Funnily enough, I've known girls who are into it but weren't interested in me. I tend to attract the "Sweet, Innocent" types for some reason.
As far as your question goes, I'd never not date someone based on that, as long as they don't judge me for my film, book, whatever entertainment propensities we'll be all set.
I agree in all forms and been through the same shit you have and also agree you can't date somebody based on tastes of movies, music, etc. You'll be spending plenty of days alone.

It is probably because once they got to know you they realized you secretly wanted to be a serial killer in your dreams. On a series not though it is hard enough to find a significant other these days. There are alot more factors in play here then just liking one type of movie or another so don't take it to heart.

I think it's somewhat important if you are the type that likes to watch movies together a lot. The last guy I dated was on the polar opposite spectrum of things. We went to a blockbuster and couldn't leave for 45 minutes because neither of us could agree on anything. He actually really wanted to watch Ella Enchanted and shit like that... But I guess things would have be better if both people in the relationship could negotiate to choose their own movie each time.

I always thought guys would appreciate the fact that I love horror films, but it seemed to have quite the opposite effect. I also think because I look like the absolute LAST person that would ever own a single horror movie, let alone over 1000 DVD's and VHS combined made it all the more shocking and difficult to accept.
But I did meet my b/f based on a mutual love of C.H.U.D. So if movie tastes matter i'm going to say in my case yes, since it's such a big part of my life. We differ in other ways, but in movies, we couldn't have more fun watching them together. To each his own I say.
