View Full Version : Can You Cook?

Found out there are some amateur chef's on the board tonight from the few moments I spent in the chatroom before. Was wondering who likes to cook out there and if so what's your best dish?

I consider myself a pretty good cook being that I'm single and have been preparing my own meals for years. My best dish: Shrimp Fra Diavolo over linguini.

Just throw some medium sized shrimps in a pan with extra virgin olive oil, minced garlic, butter and basill...fry it up and then add the heat...crushed red pepper or hot sauce. That's it. Quick and delicious.

You?

i can make some killer ghetto dishes. loose meats are my specialty.

brown hamburger, add a can of tomato soup and 4 or 5 slices of processed cheese stuff. cook it til the cheese is melty. serve on bread or hamburger buns (or hot dog buns for a real ghetto flair). and eat. my kids love it

I made a kickass pizza this weekend. Three of them. Then used the rest of the homemade dough to make cheese sticks. By far my best recipe.

I can also put together an alright eggplant parmesan, a really good sausage gravy to pour over canned biscuits (pizza crust: yes. biscuits: no), general breakfast foods, stir fry..

I cook just to keep things fun in life and have different things. Except the pizza, which only my parents might make better than I do. Maybe.

Sounds like a sloppy Joe.

pretty much, just with out the can of sloppy joe sauce. my mom taught me it. people around here dont know what to call it cause their idea of a loose meat is crumbled hamburger saturated in grease and chicken broth, stuff just rolls off the bun.

I heard the key to making really good fried potatoes is chilling them in ice water right before frying them.

Not the greatest, but I can throw together some random ingrediants, and make a nice dinner for myself and others. Think my favorite dish to make is stir-fried noodles one top of some fried rice. So good

I can't cook AT ALL. I have tried and gotten sick on a more than one occasion. Granted the food I make usually tastes pretty damn good. But I never cook it right or generally all the way through which is a bad bad thing. I have spent many long nights by the toilet due to my poor cooking abilities.

I'm a righteous cook... pasta's, sauces, pizzas, casseroles (my Tatertot Casserole is fuckin legendary), stir-fries, and of course RIBS!!!

My wife says the only thing wrong with my cooking is that I can make a salad unhealthy... she says it's like can just look at a bunch of ingredients and they instantly become unhealthy....

... I consider it a talent...

Somewhat. I can make Enchiladas, Tamales, Chile Rellenos, Lasagne, Manicotti, Chicken Parmigiana, Spanish Wraps, fish tacos, fajitas, lumpia etc pretty much any simple meal.

I'm deadly at baking though, I can make awesome ass cookies, cakes, and brownies. creme brulee, pie, an couple other things.

My mom forced all of us to learn how to cook so we wouldn't have to depend on a woman or eat junk food.

I make some killer deep fried mushrooms.. if anything will give me a heart-attack its those things. :D

Other than that.. I make my own pizza burgers. Just mold up some ground beef in a pan, cook it.. put pizza sauce on it then sprinkle mozzarella cheese over it.. you can also put seasoning on it if you prefer. I use garlic powder.

After about a year of cooking due to my wife going to school, I've gotten pretty good at it. Probably my "fancy" dish would be Chicken Castellina which is rigatoni pasta coated in a awesome sauce made from melted smoked gouda, white wine, percuitto, artichoke hearts, cream, scallions, mushrooms, and breaded chicken pieces. Also love to make Guinness stew. My ghetto dish is my bacon cheeseburger mac and cheese. Made with Velveta shells and cheese mixed with ground hamburger, onions, bacon bits, mushrooms, tomatoes and a touch of mustard...oh baby.

I'm a damn fine cook....I can't name just one particular recipe that I have up my sleeve, but I make a great apple-glazed pork, a kick-ass lasagna, rich and creamy beef stroganoff, as well as assorted italian and mexican-inspired creations.

One of my favorites is pan-seared chicken with a chunky sauce of tomatoes, onions, garlic, mushrooms, and green olives served over a bed of buttery, garlicky pasta. Sometimes I add fresh summer squash or zucchini to it for a change.

I can also make many different kinds of cookies during the holidays. That's when I really shine.

I can cook, nothing fancy. But generally I go for the boxed stuff.

When you're on a diet, like weight watchers, it's just easier to take the box to work, microwave it, and grub. When i do cook it's usually weight watcher recipes. Lucky for me my skinny husband likes the food too lol :whew:

Pressure-cooking ribs is a shortcut that serves to boils the flavor out of the meat... and is just a sad waste of a slab of heaven...

I'll put my worst slab of slow-smoked fall-of-the-bone ribs up against ANYONE's best slab of pressure cooked ribs and I'll utterly destroy the opposition... no brag... just fact...

I rub them down and marinate them overnight, this begins the tenderizing process, then slow smoke them four 6-12 hours, depending on the ribs, over low low heat from smoldering hickory wood chips... guarantee, once the ribs are done, they are as tender as anything done in a pressure-cooker. It's all a matter of patience, low-heat and technique.

Pressure cooking boils the rubs and marinade, not to mention the a vast majority of the flavor of the meat itself, right out of the rib.

If a person went to a barbeque competition with pressure cooked ribs, they'd either get laughed straight back to their car or possibly skinned alive...

I'm sure your ribs are as good as boiled meat covered in sauce can be, but they wouldn't stand up to properly cooked slow-smoked ribs...

Last time I made beef stew I learned a very valuable lesson.

I have heard it said "never cook with a wine you wouldn't drink."

It should also be said "never cook with a beer you would drink." Good beer overpowers all of the other flavors.

Next time I want to drop a little beer in the stew, I'm getting some of the bottled horse piss that you see advertised during football games.

Sometimes a little beer can pay off in something like stew or chili. But only a little.

My dad used to make an excellent spaghetti sauce with vodka in it. Never told anyone what his secret was. Just smirked when we said we liked his better than anyone else's.

I like a well made shepherd's pie. Hard to find them, though.

Made a vicious pot of chili this weekend. And I do mean vicious. It was my first time working with a can of chipotle peppers, and I used about twice as many as was useful.

It was otherwise a decent, meaty chili instead of the more northern tomato stew variety.
