Hi I am new to the forum. Just wondering what people thought was scarier, the typical blood and guts slasher type horror movies or the suspense type...like Cape Fear?

I love blood, gore and a nice and constant stabbing with a cool looking knife. Throw in pain, bondage, insanity and a tad of perversion and erotic regurgitation...and I am happy!....Welcome to UHM! :hey:

I think both are equally scary.
Good Evening (In the words of Hitchcock).. Suspense all the way.

You love the people that love you.
You hear the music they move to.
You give your ode to the fall through.
But you don't know you don't know you don't know you don't know.
Nothing scares me but what keeps me interested longer is gore and seeing the kills. Sure suspense is great the first time you see it, afterwards it gets old. Look how people still talk about Maniac Shotgun scene.. People still talking about The Ring? Th Grudge? PG 13 movies go too much for atmosphere but no killings like When A Stranger Calls, Cry Wolf and they fall flat. High Tension was a nice combination of both gore kills and suspense and that imo is what a horror movie should strive for..

:hi: Welcome. Cape Fear is a terrible example. Both suspense and gore are really good to have.

Konichiwa. Welcome to our little corner of the internet. I trust you've already lost your sanity. Little known fact; you do in fact lose your sanity as soon as you finish registering on this site.
Anyway, to the question, I've always found the creepiest movies have a nice emphasis on a great atmosphere. Always felt that was important in a creepy movie as it tend to set the mood.
