This recently re-released movie starts off a little different than most.
Two children (Kitty & Evelyn) are playing in a castle garden, one steals the others doll and runs into the castle with it. Naturally they run into a creepy painting, that seems to cast the children into violence. Their grandfather is close by to save the day, and tell the the story of the Red Queen. Which sets up the back story of the film.
Leap twelve years later and we are thrust into action as the legend of the Red Queen now seems to be coming to fruition.
Kitty is now an adult and works for a prominent fashion company, where things begin to go awry. Co workers start dying brutal deaths and a cloaked red figure is to blame. Local law enforcement doesn't believe in the old myth, and treats everyone as suspects. Virtually nobody escapes police suspicion, and they do act shady enough to garner it. Happily the identity of the caped figured is concealed well, and the police are completely useless. Much as they are in real life :D
No worries though as brisk pacing and exotic nude women are there to save the day!!
Overkill is on the menu here, and the servings are intense!
Several different methods of execution are employed effectively throughout.
Visually the film is striking, adding flair to the death scenes. Interesting lofts, and city scapes, are the stage for this murderous romp. Throw in some nudity, rope bondage, Euro hookers, evil laughter, and you're in for a treat.
As usual the Score is great, adding some liveliness to the talkative scenes. Not being one dimensional, it also enhances the stalking & suspenseful moments as well. The few times the movie did slow down, the soundtrack was there to pick it up. A good attribute to an already fun ride.
The Bottom Line:
The Red Queen supplied everything I was looking for. There were numerous naked women, exciting kills, a creepy old legend, depraved characters, and it all looked great. Brilliant cinematography and believable acting make this one my favorites. They don't make them much better than this :smokin2:
Old Red brutally stabs its way to a 9/10
